HOT TUB INSTRUCTIONS - PLEASE READ IF USING:-

BERTIES RETREAT

HOT TUB NOTES.
It does take about 20 mins to fill, we suggest setting a timer (we now leave it empty as guest feedback is that they like to fill it themselves, to see the freshwater going in) it takes about 2/3 hours to heat in really cold winter months and longer if you don’t do it properly. During warmer months it can be half this time. What catches people out is that they think it only takes a few logs and they can leave it to its own accord.

The desired temperature is 38/40 degrees. There is a gauge inside the tubThere is a hose pipe at the back of Berties, on the barn wall, this can be used to add cool water if it is too hot. Alternatively you can turn the blue filling tap to add more cold water.

Operation Valves

Immediately ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE HOT TUB is a blue open/shut valve (open is when the blue lever is in-line with the pipe and closed is when the lever is across the pipe).
THIS SHOULD ALWAYS BE SET TO OPEN AND YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TOUCH THIS VALVE.

On the lower back wall there are two further taps,

BRASS TAP THIS EMPTIES THE TUB.
TURN ANTI-CLOCKWISE TO EMPTY
TURN CLOCKWISE TO CLOSE IT.
When you start filling the hot tub, this tap must be turned fully
clockwise.
Please always check this at the start.

BLUE TAP THIS FILLS THE HOT TUB.
TURN ANTI-CLOCKWISE and put your timer on.
Turn Clockwise to stop when it is full.

Once the water is approx. 4” above the upper inlet inside of the tub, turn the blue tap clockwise, to stop the flow of water and start the fire in the stove.

DO NOT START THE FIRE UNTIL THE WATER IS ABOVE THE TOP INLET AS THIS MAY DAMAGE THE STOVE.

1 Place a couple of firelighters on the grid of the log burner. Place kindling in
a Jenga style around the fire-lighters. Light the firelighters.

2 When the kindling is nicely burning, place a couple of logs in the stove. It is
best to not put them directly on top of the kindling but at a slight angle to
allow the fire to breathe. Close the door and make sure the vent is (the
slider) is open (push to the right). Please use the glove provided. Give this
5/10 mins before adding your other logs.

4 You need to stir it with the metal paddle every 15/20 mins. The fire needs
to be kept alight with logs and it will take a whole tub of logs per night
The vent on the fire should be kept open (the slider) to get the oxygen into
the fire. When the water is to your desired temperature, the slider can
be closed a little.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE STOVE CATCH IS SECURELY ON WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED USING IT TO AVOID A FIRE RISK.

We have had to buy a new stove costing over £1000.00 as a previous guest has tried to light the fire before the hot tub had been filled fully with water. The water has to cover both pipe holes (it is evident when you look inside the hot tub). This caused holes in the stove and water to leak putting the fire out. We are just asking that the fire is not lit until the tub is full, thank you.

If the water gets too hot, please use the hosepipe to add some cool water or the blue filling tap or if you need to top the water level up.

PLEASE MAY WE ASK THAT BEFORE GOING TO BED, YOU TURN THE BRASS TAP ANTI-CLOCKWISE TO EMPTY THE HOT TUB.

2 NIGHT USAGE.

YOU CAN (AS MOST GUESTS) LEAVE THE WARM WATER IN FROM THE 1ST NIGHT AS THIS SHOULD TAKE HALF THE TIME TO GET TO TEMPERATURE.

My work: Brosterfield Farm
Lives in England, United Kingdom
Business
We are a family of 5, 3 children aged 24, 22 and 11. I am married to Stephen and love to travel. Our old brown labrador called Bertie recently passed away and we have one of our huts named after him. We now have a new lab called Digby and our new hut is named after him. We also have a new addition, called Paddington and he is a Sprocker! I love to try new restaurants and spend time with friends. We renovated Brosterfield Farm about 12 years ago and we are always updating and hopefully creating wonderful places for our guests to come and stay and share this amazing part of the Peak District with us. We live at the farm in the farmhouse and apart from an odd holiday, We have small and amazing team that help look after the farm and our properties we manage. There is Hannah whom spent her childhood actually growing up at Brosterfield (before we lived here) and now is my trusted go to person that helps with everything to do with the farm.. Melissa and her amazing girls that make sure all our properties are kept to the highest standards and Andy that does all the grounds We are a small and dedicated team that love Brosterfield and are passionate about it and all the guests that stay.
