Description

The space

Quiet, spacious room with easy access to the street and a well-equipped kitchen. There is also a friendly orange tabby who spends much of her days sleeping on chairs or gazing meditatively out the window. The living room has a comfortable couch that is good to sleep on--but not to look at!

Guest access

Guests have access to the kitchen, bathroom, living room, laundry space, and of course their room.

Interaction with guests

We are available to answer any questions before or during the stay about the city, the neighborhood, or anything else China-related. We both work during the day, but our hours and days off are flexible if guests need help with arranging travel etc.

The neighbourhood

Our neighborhood has a nice balance of authentic Chinese places including a tasty spicy noodle joint and a Northeastern-style food place, but also is conveniently located on the edge of the old French Concession where Western and Chinese styles mix. Right next to a jazz club and art space. Walking distance from a movie theater and 3 different supermarkets for guests who want to cook their own meals.

Getting around

The 3/4/10 subway lines all meet at Hongqiao Road, a 10 minute walk from our place and taxies are easy to access. Jiaotong University metro stop is a 15 minute walk as well.

Other things to note

Our cat is very friendly and sleeps in the laundry nook at night, so there is no need to worry about her trying to open your door at 3am. If you leave your door open, she will wander in for a prolonged visit. If you will be staying in China long-term and need to register with the police, we can help you with that.

Clara and Ian were great hosts, they made me feel at home all the time I was at their home. The room is very comfortable and you will get anything you need while you are there. Everything is very clean and in order. The location can't be better, since it is in the middle of Shanghai. It is a very short walk away from the subway station, having line 3/4/10 right within a 8-10 minute walk. There are plenty of choices of restaurants, coffee shops, snacks, and shopping right as you walk outside. I would definitely recommend their home to anyone wanting to have a great experience in shanghai and getting to know some great people at the same time. Not only did I have a great stay at their place, I also made some really nice friends. Thanks a lot once again.

Clara did a wonderful job of making me feel welcome in her home as well as preparing me to explore the surrounding area. She lives in a very safe neighborhood which is surrounded by some pretty exceptional Chinese street food. The room is well maintained and comfortable with its own AC and closet. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would stay there again given the chance.

Clara User Profile

Originally from New York, but currently living in Shanghai, China, I love to travel, eat delicious food, and learn about history. When I am not working I do ceramics and cook. I read a lot and look for recommendations everywhere I go. I love meeting new people and growing my community around the world. When I travel I love to dive into the history of the area and learn everything I can about what life is like there.
