Great central location and good value. There were no bathing facilities however the host kindly offered free tokens to the local Sento. Me and my teenagers had a good night's rest.

Host was friendly and the accommodation was great, I got to have the entire second floor with 3 rooms. Electric warm blanket and warmer was provided in bedroom so its very warm at night and comfortable. The location is also very close to the Takayama sightseeing area and everything was within close walking distance so no transportation was required. Towel and other shower products were also provided for free.

We arrived around 22:30 and our host was awake and waiting for us, so he could show us to our room. He was very welcoming and offered us a drink and something to eat. Our room was perfect for the one night stay and was very comfortable. For a first time host he was excellent, mostly due to his communication and upbeat attitude. Overall a really lovely experience.

Masa's place was very comfortable, while we had a little trouble navigating from the bus terminal at first, we eventually found his lovely home. Masa's was very convenient, walkable to both the new and old districts of Takayama and to many( if not all)places of interest to us. We enjoyed his recommendations for food and especially enjoyed the cereal he provided for breakfast. The beds were very comfortable and we had no trouble with the older style home nor the bathrooms and other amenities. We would certainly return if we come back to Takayama-- a lovely getaway from some of Japan's more hustle and bustle destinations.

Tip: grab an English walking map from the station, have the train crew mark out where you are and where the post office is so you have a clear drawn out map of exactly where you need to go. I should have done this myself because I'm terrible with instructions and i got lost. Once you find the post office, it's pretty clear and easy to find masa's place. Really good location. 9 mins walk to the station. And all major tourist sites are within 10min easy stroll. Really old house. Don't expect anything flash. But good if you're after character and authenticity. The onsen tickets were heaven sent! Masa was very respectful of our space and privacy. Recommended for budget conscious travelers.

My name is Masanori Yamakawa. I was born in Takayama City.
Call me "Masa"!!

After graduating from university, I was working for TOSHIBA in Tokyo, and
have continued to semiconductor development 20 years.
In 2014,I came back to my home city.

Until now, more than 20 times, I went on a trip abroad.
The most was the Asia region. China,Korea,Taiwan,Thailand,Singapore, and so on.
Went many times to the same town, I like to understand deeply(Climate, Terrain,Food,Real life).
It might be because I majored in geography at university.

Takayama City, look geographically, it is a very interesting town.
Because 18th-century buildings and modern architecture has been mixed.Real life is also the same. We live in a state-of-the-art information infrastructure and the traditional culture. If you walk this town, the reason you know.

I am now enjoying a carefree living alone.
However I would very welcome guests!!.
Sometimes, because lonely...
