We had such a great time staying close to Hout Bay and Constantia Nek. Ideal for those who like nature as it is a perfect location for the botanical garden and various walks accessing Table Mountain. The host and her family are very friendly and have local knowledge for various family activities. Thank you for making our stay in Cape Town special!

From the moment we arrived at Shani's delightful home in the tranquil gardens surrounding Hout Bay we knew we were going to have a memorable and relaxing stay. From the warm introductory welcome we received through to the standard of our accommodation together with the idylllic surroundings in which we found ourselves, our time at Tempest Cottage was exceptional in every sense. Shani,Richard and their family together with the rest of the team made us feel completely comfortable and more like part of the family from the outset, catering to our every need. The accommodation itself we found better than described;an extremely functional cottage together with a distinct warm, personal feel about it. This felt far from a holiday rental but more akin to sharing someone's home space with tasteful and cosy furnishing. We enjoyed every moment of our time at Tempest and became very attached to our little slice of paradise! Leaving was never going to be easy however we resssured ourselves in the knowledge that we will definitely return. I cannot recommend Shani's intimate offering highly enough!

A stunning setting with so much for the little ones to explore - swings and climbing frames, a tree house, a babbling stream, a pool, a small farm with goats and warthogs, life-size animal sculptures hidden amongst the foliage. Our 3-year-old had a wonderful time splashing in the pool and running through the sprinklers. The garden is so beautifully kept and made for a very relaxing stay. The accommodation was comfortable and Shani and Richard were such kind and generous hosts. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

This place is absolutely amazing! We had the best holiday of our lives. The cottage is perfectly located near Hout Bay, great base for exploring the cape and only 20 min drive to Cape Town central. Shani and Richard were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. They wrote a list of recommended places to visit and restaurants (must visit Cheynes in Hout Bay it's amazing!) The house itself is set in a spectacular garden with small farm (and surprisingly quiet animals so no need to worry about noise!), swimming pool, river, sculptures and treehouse! Cottage is serviced daily which was great, Shani and Richard have gardeners and maids who are so friendly and helpful. Our two year old absolutely loved everything about this place! We were sad to leave and are definitely coming back! Highly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed.

From the moment we arrived at 'The Tempest' we knew it was something a bit different. The garden is beautiful, with plenty of hidden delights and was fantastic for our toddler who'd spent the previous week cooped up in a trendy apartment. The metalwork is fantastic and imaginatively hidden throughout the vegetation, the pool inviting and not too cold, the play area a haven for energetic children. There's also a small farm, tree house and river... if you get the chance to see it all... Shani & Peter were both very friendly and approachable, taking time out from their busy schedule to help us with any problems or just to have a chat and show us around the grounds. We were made to feel very welcome and there were lots of lovely little things that just made the experience... whether it was offering to do our laundry when our toddler was sick on himself, inviting us in for a glass of wine and a chat, or simply offering advice on the best place for breakfast locally, these are the types of interactions above and beyond what we expected that made us feel so at home. The location is somewhere in between Constantia and Hout Bay, meaning a car is a must and something that's worth noting is the sheer lack of food delivery that seems to be Cape Town wide... The kitchen is fully equipped though with an oven, microwave & fridge and there are plenty of restaurants locally, many of whom do take away if desired. For those technologically minded, the TV is fairly new and has an HDMI port and the cottage has pretty good Wifi - so we were able to watch some Netflix in the evenings after settling the youngster. We had a great time during our stay here, despite our little boy getting ill... the family are lovely and the house was very cosy (the under floor heating being a particularly nice touch). I'd happily recommend to anyone.
