Alex's place was lovely. It was better than the photographs show, it was really cool and there where some really nice homely touches. The place was super clean and the beds were comfy enough. The bathroom and kitchen where great too. The view from the windows was pretty awesome. Alex was brilliant with communication. We arrived after 10pm on a Thursday but this wasn't a problem for Alex. He came and met us to give us the keys and even helped us with our suitcase. We also asked for a late check out which he was happy to oblige with. Nicest host ever.
The location was the best part about it. Lugallee, the street it is set on has some brilliant restaurants, shops and a couple of supermarkets. There is a tram stop right outside the apartment building (Lugeplatz) and one further down the street, no more than 5 mins away. From the Lugeplatz stop, it's only 2 stops to Heinrich-Heine-Allee station which is right in the middle of Düsseldorf shopping area, and also close to where the Christmas markets are located. You can also get the tram straight to Düsseldorf central station within 10 mins, and from there you can go all over! It's only 25 mins to Cologne and we even saw trains to Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris! There is also a taxi rank right across the street, which was helpful for getting to the airport.
The only small negative we had about the apartment was that we couldn't get the lift to work. It worked on the first night so we got our case up okay but we couldn't get it to work the rest of the time. It wasn't too big of a deal though, it gave us a good chance to walk off all that extra German cheese we'd been eating!
Overall, it is one of the best Airbnb's I've stayed in and I would recommend it very highly.
