Description

The space

The property is clean, comfortable, airy with all amenities. Lake Terrace is the second house on your right as you walk up Rajapihilla Terrace. (URL HIDDEN)

A bus ride to Kandy town takes just ten minutes and costs SLRs. 8, or hail a tuktuk available nearby. If you're in the mood to walk, it's twenty minutes by foot around the picturesque Kandy lake past the historic Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth.)

There are plenty of nice cafes nearby serving a range of Sri Lankan dishes. Watch traditional dance recitals daily at the nearby Avanhala theatre and the Kandiyan Art Association.

Guest access

The room has two single beds. En-suite toilet with hot water shower. Guests can use the shared patio, dinning area. Kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, blender, rice cooker etc. is at your disposal. Grocery stores are nearby. Free 24h parking on premises and Wifi.

Interaction with guests

We can arrange Railway and bus station pick-ups, city tours and day excursions with safe and reliable drivers at reasonable rate . Popular tourist attractions include the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth), Tea museum, Royal Botanic Gardens, the Gadaladeniya, Ambekke and Lankatilleka temples. Hike the world heritage Udawatte-kale rain forest and the Hantane range that rings Kandy.

The neighbourhood

Dominating the town is the Kandy Lake. A leisurely stroll or a jog with a few stops on the lakeside seats, is a pleasant way to spend a few hours. The lake is surrounded by the Udawattekelle nature reserve from where troupes of monkeys visit us frequently. When you walk down from Lake Terrace you will find several food outlets serving a variety of Sri Lankan dishes. You will also find several food outlets and also grocery stores from where you can purchase cooking ingredients, bottled water, toiletries etc. These shops are open from about 7 am to 10 pm. The Lakeside Adventist Hospital is about ½ km away from my Lake Terrace.

Getting around

You can easily walk to the Kandy city along the lake along the paved side walk. Or you may take bus or tuktuks which are available throughout the day. The bus stops are walking distance from my apartment. If you wish to hire a car or van we can help you out.

Other things to note

The famous Kandy Esala Perahera (URL HIDDEN) will parade the streets of Kandy city from 8th to 17th August and culminate with the day perahera on 18th August. Lake Terrace is the ideal place to stay during this season simply because you can easily walk to Kandy city to view the Perahera and not be affected by the heavy traffic flow into the city.

Having graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1972, I joined the Research Division of the Department of Agriculture (DOA) and worked for 35 years until retirement. While in the DOA I had the opportunity to attended several international meetings and made friends with agricultural scientists from many countries. I am an active member of the Sri Lanka Soil Science Society (SSSSL) and after retirement I worked on a partnership project with the Soil Science Society of Canada. I have two grown kids who are Yoga experts and have coxed me also into it. In retirement I enjoy cooking and listening to oldies music. My motto is "appreciate the good things that God has given". I'm looking forward to having guests at Reeves Garden from all parts of the world and to show them the hospitality that we offer.
