Description

The space

You'll have private use of our guest bedroom. The queen bed has luxury linens and a down comforter. There's an air conditioner in the bedroom for the summer, and central heating for the winter. You'll also have your own dedicated private bathroom. Your space is in the back of the house and ours is in the front of the house, so there are no concerns about noise while sleeping, etc.

Bathroom -- you'll have private use of the back bathroom, which is near the guest bedroom. It has a shower, toilet, and sink, and there will be space on a shelf for your toiletries.

Second bedroom -- We have a second bedroom (den) that can be booked through our other listing if you have more than two people.

Gym-- Wade and Krista are avid CrossFit-ers, and have turned the back yard into a gym area. We don't have cardio equipment (that's what the area hills are for), but we have tons of weight lifting stuff and related gear.

Why San Pedro? -- Perhaps you're heading out for a cruise, in which case you need an alternative to the local hotels before you embark. Or perhaps you've heard about this adorable port town and want to check it out -- who wouldn't? The views are stunning in every direction, the wild peacocks roam about a mile away from the house, the Port and related museums offer access to LA's abundant history, the Korean friendship bell and Point Fermin park provide some of the most spectacular views in the entire county. We're minutes away from Long Beach, with its shopping, dining, and culture, and Palos Verdes, with one of the best drives in the United States and abundant golf!

Guest access

The only rooms that are off-limits in our three-bedroom, two-bath house are the master bedroom and master bathroom. You'll be staying in the guest bedroom at the rear of the house. You'll have access to the kitchen, dining area, and living room.

Feel free to use the kitchen to cook meals if you want to relax at home, or I can provide recommendations for the local restaurants if you prefer to go out.

Interaction with guests

Wade and Krista -- we are your hosts, and we want to share everything we love about the area with you. We've lived in Los Angeles for about twenty years, and together we own and operate SUP with Wade, the only five-star rated stand up paddleboard company on Yelp in San Pedro. Wade is also a bad-ass helicopter pilot, and if you want to see LA from the air, he's your guy to make it happen. Krista is a lawyer by day, but she works for the county and promises not to cross-examine you.

You'll be sharing a space with us, and we can be as present or as absent as you want/need during your trip. Krista is gone by eight a.m. and usually returns around six p.m., makes dinner, and is in bed by ten. Wade's schedule is more flexible, but he spends a fair amount of his time out in his converted garage/man cave, so he won't bug you unless you want him to.

The neighbourhood

We are in the Vista del Oro neighborhood of San Pedro, and the name means "view of gold" for a reason -- set atop the rolling hills, every view is more stunning than the next. The photos truly don't do it justice. The neighborhood is extremely quiet and safe, mostly families, old and established homes. We love it! That being said, this location is perfect for some and awful for others. AirBNB is all about full disclosure, so please read below to determine whether our home is right for you or not.

Our home is RIGHT for you IF:
1. You have business, a conference, an event, etc., somewhere in the southern part of Los Angeles. We are convenient to Torrance, Long Beach, Palos Verdes, the StubHub Center, etc.
2. You're coming for a while, you want to go south (Long Beach, Huntington, Disney, Orange County) AND north (Venice, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, downtown, Hollywood, Universal), and you want to set up a home in one place for the duration.
3. You're going on a cruise -- the port is very close and easy to get to.
4. You want a quiet home in a beautiful neighborhood.

Our home is NOT for you if:
1. You want to spend your entire vacation in the "heart" of Los Angeles -- Santa Monica, Venice, Beverly Hills, downtown, Hollywood, Universal -- this area is far, and with rush hour, it's brutally far. You will not be happy.
2. You want to be "in the mix" -- you want to walk to the hippest restaurants and bars in LA -- we're not your spot. We have some great ma and pa restaurants and cute little bars and breweries, but we're not near any of the hot spots.

All of the above being said, we've found that people have a great time if they sleep in a little bit, get on the road after rush hour (around ten a.m.), and return after they eat dinner (so evening rush hour is clear). You can get to almost anywhere, north or south, in a half an hour if you plan to avoid rush hour.

Getting around

The San Pedro DASH literally stops in front of our house. For 50 cents, you can go anywhere you need to go in San Pedro.

The DASH will also take you to the Commuter Express, which runs over to Long Beach and back.

The DASH also takes you to the Metro silver line, which uses the HOV lanes to quickly transport you to downtown and back.

Uber and Lyft are readily available in the area.

We have tons of parking if you're planning to rent a car, which is what we highly recommend. Los Angeles is a HUGE city, and unfortunately the public transit is not great. If you want to see the city, Uber and Lyft will add up fast, and public transit will eat up most of your vacation time. Splurge. Rent a car.

Other things to note

We sometimes have dinner parties, and we recently started hosting AirBNB experiences, which include a dinner in our home. These do not go late (everyone is gone by ten p.m.), they are not super loud (we'll have mellow music in the background), and you are welcome to join us. If you would strongly prefer not to have a dinner party happening while you stay with us, please e-mail us before booking to ask what, if anything, is planned during your dates.

A note about breakfast -- when I'm traveling, I hate paying for breakfast. Breakfast is an important meal for us, and I always make some combo of pasture-raised eggs, pasture-raised meat, and organic veggies in the morning. Since I'm making it anyway, I thought it would be nice to make extra for you. I usually make breakfast around 7:30 to 8:00 weekdays, sometimes a little later on weekends. If you need to be up and out earlier, or if you have special dietary restrictions, please note that I am, unfortunately, NOT a short order cook. I know you have your reasons for being vegan, kosher, dairy-free, allergic to seafood, etc., but I can't change the breakfast menu to accommodate. You have use of our kitchen, and will need to prepare your own breakfast if one of those circumstances applies to you.

This couldn't have been any easier. Talk about privacy. I guess they were home but I didn't hear a peep and they probably thought the same for me lol. Super clean room and the bathroom was very roomy for a big boy like me. There was a wall unit AC in the room which was perfect for me because i need air movement when I sleep. THE VIEWS OF THE CITY WERE FABULOUS!!! Krista was a very gracious host and super easy to communicate with. I definitely recommend their pad!!!

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! Krista was the most accommodating host. I was in town for a quick wedding trip. She allowed for an early check-in, as my event started at the normal check-in time. She was a friendly face to arrive to, and even helped my pick my outfit accessories! The house is super cute with an amazing view. The neighborhood was very clean, pretty and quiet with an abundance of parking. After a great night's sleep on the super comfy bed, I awakened to the clicking sound of the gas stove. If you've had the pleasure of cooking with a gas stove, you know that's the sound of food. Krista made an amazing breakfast with the perfect amount of protein to power me through my next adventure. I signed up for a morning 'SUP with Wade.' The beach was 5-10min drive away. After meeting up with the other students, and some onshore lessons I was ready to hit the water. If you've never been paddleboarding and like fun, new experiences, give this a try. Wade and Krista were extremely helpful instructors! As a first timer it was amazing, fun, difficult, beautiful, peaceful yet surprisingly upsetting. There was so much trash in the water. Looking for: -a cute beach town not in the mix of it all -Wonderful, accommodating host -Clean room/bathroom -Free parking/delish breakfast -Great Experience, etc... Don't pass on this spot!! P.s. Don't forget to book your SUP 's totally worth it!

Do not pass over this great air bnb! This is my third stay at Krista and Wade's lovely home. They have a beautiful view from their living room. The room, with a nice private bath, is very comfortable. Krista is always easy to communicate with before and during your stay. She serves a delicious breakfast and they both take the time to share their insights and suggestions on the local area. I love staying here and will certainly return on my next trip to the area.

Krista and Wade met about ten years ago and have lived all over Los Angeles; a few years ago we decided to make San Pedro our home, and we couldn't be happier here. We know you'll be shocked at all this neighborhood has to offer -- the combination of urban, small town, and coastal couldn't make us happier.

We love surfing, paddling, and being out in nature. We think it would be a crime to live in coastal Los Angeles and not get outside as much as possible!
