About this listing

Escape to our tranquil eco-lodge set in a lush coffee farm in the forests above Matagalpa. Experience true 'off the beaten track' accommodation at our solar-powered eco lodge with no roads surrounding and only the sounds of the forest, birds and rural life. We serve home cooked meals, snacks and drinks. We provide coffee tours, short hikes and longer hikes including a day hike to our neighbours farm, the famous Selva Negra for lunch by the beautiful lake and a wander in the hotel grounds.

The space

Double room (we also have a twin room, see our host profile for all our listings) with bedding and warm blankets to keep you cosy at night in the fresh mountain air. Communal areas include a comfortable lounge space, dining area and two balconies great for bird watching and yoga. Shared bathrooms with two toilets and two cool showers. (We are working on compost showers!) Please note: We do not have an open kitchen.

Guest access

Access to all areas other than the hosts bedroom and the kitchen. Food is very important to us here at Finca Musica del Bosque, we provide guests with healthy and delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. All breakfasts come with tea, house-roasted coffee or freshly squeezed juice. Lunch and dinner are served family style at our large dining table or al fresco on one of our two balconies. If you have any dietary requirements we are very happy to accommodate you or if you prefer to 'opt out' of a meal that's fine we can take this off your bill.

Interaction with guests

Pete from England and Anna from New Zealand are your hosts. They live on site and are available to provide guided hikes, coffee & farm tours, information about local wildlife, bamboo harvesting, citrus trees and all sorts of other interesting stuff.

Other things to note

We are off the grid and run almost purely off solar energy so we don't have many gadgets or gizmos. We don't have wifi at the lodge but we can provide a 'hotspot' on request through the mobile 3G network if guests have a need to use the internet that cant wait. We prefer our tranquil space to be free of gadgets to allow people to interact and talk with each other. Please note sometimes it's not a very strong connection as we are high in the mountains but it is sufficient to check emails and use search engines. We can charge your phones and laptops using our solar energy and we have lighting throughout the lodge but its recommended you bring a torch for night time when the lights are off. If you don't have your own towel we can supply one at a small cost.

Our lodge is off the beaten track and only accessible by 4x4, so if you don't have your own off road vehicle you will need to take transport from Matagalpa to get to and from the lodge.

We provide a pickup (normally at 2pm) and drop off service for guests from Barista Coffee Shop next to Matagalpa Cathedral to the lodge, this costs $5 each way per person ($10 for a single person) - this is the safest and most reliable option and takes about 25 minutes to arrive to our parking spot which is a short, easy walk from the lodge.

It is possible to take a random taxi from the city which will cost about $7, but they can only bring you to a river crossing where we would have to pick you up - so this option works out about the same price but is less reliable and safe.

Peace, solitude, the music of wind, rain and wildlife. Comfortable, well equipped rooms, a fine selection of books and games and a cozy common area. An exceptional place to get away from just about anything.

Quiet and peaceful retreat that was clean and comfortable, despite non-stop rain during my visit. Good hikes in the area, and the managers were very helpful and attentive. Be warned, however, that no meals are included in the price of the room and add up to an additional $20/day. I also got hungry between meals and would recommend bringing snacks.

Pete and Anna run an amazing finca high up in the mountains. The view is spectacular, the rooms are clean and lovely decorated (with beautiful paintings from Claudia) and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Because of the finca's location, it cools down in the evening, making it our best night sleep this holiday. This is a great place to read a book (your own or one from their extensive selection), hang around in a hammock or play banana gram. Magalie and Mattias, who will be running the finca this summer, prepared delicious meals and are sure to be amazing hosts. Thank you so much Anna, Pete, Magalie and Mattias:) we loved staying with you.

We booked 2 rooms for our stay with our son and had the most amazing, relaxing and informative time. The sighting of toucans was the highlight of our stay but many other exotic birds made themselves known too. We LOVED Anna's cooking and Pete's tour around the farm was really interesting. We will be back to this truly beautiful place.

Fantastic place for those who like nature, quietness and amazing view. It is a rustic but charming lodge, nestled in a coffee plantation. We received a warm welcome, enjoyed homemade food, cocktails, coffee, and a lot of good conversations. A perfect place to escape the noise of the city and chill out. We'll come back in this natural paradise!

Hola!
We are Anna and Pete a couple from England and New Zealand. We have moved to the mountains of Nicaragua in search of a simple life and to get to know the land and nature in this area. We love healthy fresh food and are trying to grow as much of our own as possible. We are really enjoying learning about coffee, and all other plants and wildlife in the area as well as getting to know our new neighbours and surrounding communities. We are fast developing our knowledge and experience of permaculture design, eco-building, bamboo harvesting, fruit harvesting and many other interesting things we can learn with this rural life. We would love to share our experience with you and let you enjoy the magical place where we live.
