The Willows is our much-loved, light-filled holiday home. It has a gorgeous view, large garden with a ground level 12 ft trampoline and great sunsets. It is very user-friendly. It is 7 mins drive to Woolacombe, voted one of the UK's best beaches for surfing and families and 15 mins drive to top surf spot Croyde. In winter it makes a cozy base for walking, surfing and just chilling out and watching the light on the ocean. You can check out in the evening in winter months if no next day booking.

The space
This is a three bedroom bungalow with a kitchen, dining room and light filled sitting room that opens up onto the garden. The bedrooms are not big, but we hope you'll find the beds very comfy and have White Company sheets. There is one family bathroom with a big bath and a rather weak shower - if you like power-showers don't book! And there is a separate loo as well. What we love about the place - along with the garden, the view, the light and the beach, is how easy and cosy the house is. It's got good central heating, plenty of hot water and there is no fiddling around with open fires or wood burners. We've also found it is a great space for young children - all on one floor with a carpet for them to crawl all over. We bought the house when our first son was 3 months old - now he is 8 and his brother 6 and they love the place - as do many of our friends who come to stay with their kids. The garden is great for a game of football and we've just sunk in a 12ft trampoline so no worries about kids falling off. My elderly parents like it too as they can sit in the sitting room and enjoy the sunset every night and amazing skies. The kitchen has an excellent induction hob and a good oven. There's also a very handy place to hang wet clothes, and wetsuits etc if you go in the sea.

Guest access
You can access with a key safe on the side of the front door.

Other things to note
This is a well-loved holiday home so it's had some wear and tear. If you want a really smart, boutique, interior designed holiday pad this isn't the place for you. If you want an easy, sunny, comfy place to hang out and flop after a day on the beach, or a rainy walk, then we hope it will work for you perfectly.

Neighbourhood highlights

Woolacombe was voted second best beach in the UK by Sunday Times readers this year. Its a 3 mile stretch of golden sand, with great surf breaks at both ends. At the north end of the beach, Woolacombe is a low key, surfy town, with some nice bars and shops and plenty of bucket and spade action in the summer. At the southern end is Puttsborough that you have to drive to but has a great grassy car park over looking the beach, a great cafe and is a very popular surf spot. Just north of Woolacombe main beach is Barricaine and Combs, two more lovely little coves to explore at low tide. There is a cafe here in summer that serves a top Sri Lankan curry on proper plates every evening where you can bring a bottle and sit on a picnic blanket and watch the sunset.

Lives in London, United Kingdom
I am a journalist and mother of two. Both my husband and I work in London and Woolacombe is our refuge - a place where we can unwind and go surfing. By coincidence, both our families have been coming to Woolacombe on holiday since the 1930s. With its incredible beaches and sunsets, it's a magic spot and such a pleasure sharing it with other people. Now my mother has recently built her own chalet in Instow by the Tarka Trial.
