Fabulous 1940's Fishing cabin right on the Sacramento River. Big deck for casting, meditation or relaxin. Cute as a bug and rent the one next door for more room. Located in Sweetbriar just below Castella just 20 min south of Mt Shasta.

The space

The renowned Sweetbriar. Darling bungalows, cottages and cabins dot this tiny little community along the Sacramento River. Of course, the train whistles it way up the canyon nearby. This cabin is for those who want to leave behind the amenities and drink in the golden sounds of the river. Plush ferns and trees surround the cabin which also has gorgeous pine trees.. The open floor plan creates sleeping for four in the living area shared with a fully function kitchen. Check out the retro 50's fridge and red checkered table cloth!! This cabin also has one private bedroom with a queen bed. Knotty pine walls give it a warm glow. Fully equipped with everything you need to live the simple life if only for a long weekend. The oversized brand new redwood deck is perfect for relaxing, fishing, bar-b-ques, playing cards, or sharing those moments when you - "almost had that big trout". Just sit and watch the osprey swoop down for their gourmet lunch! Great hiking trails and swimming holes nearby. Bring your camera, the air is sweet and the area is beautiful. Of course, the tap water, the best on earth! Closed for the winter season November 1st to April 1st. We do take bookings for next spring and summer now so call and reserve!! The cabin was very cute and the deck was wonderful! Loved being right on the river under the lush green trees.

First off, all fees need to be included in the cost. If AirBNB doesn't support it, then it needs to be included in the price. Getting asked for money after the fact is kind of annoying. That being said, that is an AirBNB issue, but even with that I cannot recommend this place to anyone with small kids. The place is not easy to find as the directions given were incorrect, the sign is hard to see, and GPS is incorrect for this specific property. The first impression of the house is that the entrance board is going to break and drop you down 1-2 feet. Once you enter, prepare for old, stale, and incorrect furnishings. The AirBNB description, the pictures, and reality are all different. The first thing we saw were warning pictures about bears. While I didn't notice it because I was carrying luggage, my kids did, and this scared my kids so much they refused to even play outside. The deck looked enticing, but the trees were not trimmed and blocked almost the entire view and since my kids didn't want me to get eaten by bears, there was no point in even using it. One of the first things I did after a long day, was take a shower, which promptly clogged. While they did attempt to fix it that night, it ended up clogging again the next day. The river is great if you have kids that are strong swimmers, but with younger kids, the swimming areas are not very useful. The place didn't cool down until late into the night, despite running a box fan in the window, using their recommended cooling method. Also leaving the windows open removes the dampening affect on the passing trains sound. While they wouldn't bother me with the windows closed, it is hard to hear anyone with the windows open. The place is just stale, dusty, and old. It needs a good refreshing of everything and our allergies were going nuts from the house and not from nature. The blinds are broken or almost to the point of breaking. I could add more, but I think you get the point. One thing that isn't mentioned here, is that the only place you can use a washer and dryer nearby is two towns away in Dunsmuir. That place is giant disgusting mess where half of the washers/dryers are broken and there is garbage and webs everywhere. It looks to be going through ownership changes, so maybe in the future it is better. On a side note, the neighbors we interacted with were very nice, but overall this place was just not a good fit for us. It is marketed as fitting 6, but I don't think any group larger than 3 would be comfortable here. Also the checkout policy is nuts. Why do I have to cleanup sheets, linens, towels, trash, etc... and pay a cleaning fee?

A spectacular setting, above the river and fine...comfortable cabin for the two of us. Enjoyed ourselves and our stay...well set up. Could advise of added taxes more prominently, and dealing through an agent made it a little less friendly than private air bnb arrangements... also note no wifi. overall great stay and place.

We really enjoyed our stay! It was a great way to be outdoors as a family. We ate out on the deck for every meal and enjoyed an easy walk to a nearby swimming spot in the river. We had kids in our group from age 2-9 and a great time was had by all!

I'm all for a rustic cabin, BUT.....the pictures on airbnb for the River Cast cabin are not even close to what the cabin looked like! The posting clearly shows 2 couches, one large and one one love seat, a coffee table and a floor lamp. Upon arrival the only thing in the living room was a small love seat, and an end table, no coffee table. Where is a family supposed to sit and relax? We were looking forward to playing games and watching a movie with our daughter and one of us had to be on the floor, which was very uncomfortable, and dirty. The freezer had one partially-filled filthy ice cube tray that looked like it had been there unused for years. Also, the shower had worms in it, the toilet bowl emitted HOT water and in the welcome packet it said a hair dryer was provided. It was not. Additionally the pictures in the posting showed a lovely large CLEAN deck with a lounge chair and cushion. Although the deck was large, it had not been swept nor the chairs and tables been cleaned in ages. Cobwebs and dirt everywhere, and no lounge chair and cushion. With the deck being dirty and having to clean it ourselves and the inside sparsely furnished and did not represent your pictures online, we were truly disapointed. Guests be warned that you need to take your garbage with you as well. That was a huge omission on the posting, and a burden. We have been renting houses for years up near Dunsmuir and have never been this upset with the accommodations.

Very quaint place literally on the edge of the river. The 2 bedroom cabin was comfortable with our group (3 adults). The cabin came with 2 twins and a queen size bed. Basic necessities included: stove with oven, refrigerator, running water (hot and cold), and a bathroom. Cell phone connection was strong throughout the day and lost connectivity during the night which lead us to believe someone nearby had a signal extender turned on during the day and they turned it off at night. There is also no trash service. A $30 fee is charged if you do not pack out your own trash. It was a great stay right by the Sacramento river in the forest. We would come back!

This is a very cute cabin right on the water. It rained a lot, so tracking in pine needles and leaves was a bit of an issue, but not a big deal. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of extra towels. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. There was a VHS player with some good movies the kids enjoyed. The welcome basket of snacks was very nice!! Thank you.

I am a local native Mt Shastan who enjoys living in a small community and the great outdoors. My husband, kids and I camp and fish all summer and kayak the lakes and rivers often. We RV most weekends taking advantage of the local camp spots where we sit around campfires and sip good wine. I am a huge foodie and can think of nothing better than spending a day in the kitchen - and am always dreaming of a trip to Italy for a cooking tour! I am Owner/Broker of Century 21 Advantage which is the largest real estate company in Siskiyou County and I also own and operate Mt Shasta Vacation Rentals. I have great teams of people who work their days making great vacations come true here in the shadows of the mountain. If you are called to live out your days in this splendor, then I can assist you in finding the perfect home. I would love to meet you and your guests - I can be a huge resource of information for those coming here for the first time or those who are almost replanted here. I wish you kind blessings, Linda
