Since this is a heritage home with its original Douglas fir floors, we do ask guests to remove their shoes. Candles are not permitted in most instances but if you have something specific in mind, run it by us, and let's see if it minimizes potential for damage (ie melted wax is very difficult to clean) and fire hazard. Electronic candles are fine, and we do supply these in guest rooms.

Our basic rules: respect other people in the house, enjoy our "stuff" but take care of it so others can enjoy it also, and make yourself at home in this lovely house!

This is a wonderful gem! Teresa runs an actual bnb with a amazing breakfast in the morning. The home has an incredible history. It's beautiful wooden floors, tiled bathroom and well everything is just so amazing. I loved staying here and will return if ever in Duncan again.

McLay Heritage house is tastefully filled with treasures from yesteryear. The warm cozy atmosphere is delightfully inviting. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and sparkling clean! You'll want to extend your stay just to fully enjoy it all!! Teresa and Jim are the most generous accommodating people you will ever meet!! And ... did I mention the food?? Master-chef style breakfasts every day!!! We will be back!!! ❤️

Great Victorian heritage house and guests can stay in 1 of the 4 rooms. Hassle free check-in and Teresa is very attentive and responds to messages promptly. Nice homemade breakfasts served in the morning as well. We highly recommend staying at Teresa's wonderful place-

Great hosts and lovely heritage home. The Cowichan area is a good place for restaurants and music with the Trans Canada Trail nearby!

Both Jim and Teresa were fantastic hosts-there was always someone available to answer any questions-Teresa waited for me on my arrival even though it was a rather late arrival-their breakfasts were awesome and always ready at the designated time-I was given a key so I could get in at any time of the nite-they had a wealth of information to help me find what i was looking for and needed to do-i most definitely will go back when i am in the area.My bed was very comfortable-hard to get up in the morning from such a comfy bed

Beautiful heritage home loving shared with me by Teresa and Jim, my expectational hosts! All was as advertised but so much more... Teresa's wonderful breakfast, who knew I would find a fellow Chef in Duncan, along with all the totems. I would welcome the chance to stay in an instant, highly recommend this gem to all!

I'm a full-time B&B host since 2015 when Jim and I "adopted" McLay Heritage Guest House. At the time, I owned a restaurant in Cowichan but after 3 years of long hours and little play, I needed something that gave me more control of my time. Running a B&B feeds my passion for cooking and entertaining, leaving time for reading, meditation and even occasionally, travel!
