About this listing

Kia ora. Stay in a lovely large character farm house handy to airport, city, Kaiapoi & Rangiora. A friendly welcome. We treat you with a freshly cooked farm breakfast - from the farm gardens and hens. We grow our food with sheep, cows, hens, bees & gardens. Farm tour included to meet animals including rare breeds like a miniture cow and beautiful hens. Treat yourselves to a different experience prior to leaving for the airport. Bring pets under other listing. Free off road parking.

The space

Huge character farm style open kitchen, grand dining hall and fire in living area. You are welcome to make tea/coffee anytime in the kitchen. Two guest rooms with a queen bed in each downstairs. Can have four guests inside the house but if you have more people there is a listing for a separate rustic studio with BBQ area, overlooking huge gardens where guests can also bring pets.

Guest access

Dave is happy to give you a farm tour to meet the animals. Ours are friendly because they are hand fed. We have cows, sheep, 55 free range hens (rescued from a factory), rare breeds including a miniture cow, beautiful hens, sometimes pigs and bee hives. Wander in the gardens, have breakfast or relax with a wine in the evenings.
Plenty of off street parking.

Interaction with guests

Dave can take you on a farm tour to meet the animals. We enjoy spending time talking with guests over a coffee or tea. You are welcome to bring your own wine, beer or picnic.
Happy to advise about restaurants in the area - having tried most. There is an fun Japanese teppanyaki 8 mins away in Kaiapoi. Also Moroccan, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese.
For groups of 4 or more, Dave enjoys relieving his chefing days - will treat you to a 3 course meal featuring food from his fishing trips and the farm. Silver service @ $55/head. Bring own wine or beer and watch a cooking demonstration. Needs to be requested in advance as your dinner may be presently eating grass.

Our water is pumped from our own bores - lovely quality to drink straight from the tap. Along with our animal welfare philosophy, we consider how to conserve water - simple things like not leaving taps to run while brushing teeth, showers under 15 mins. Shower has good water pressure. No smoking inside. Respectful of noise levels at night especially after 11pm.

Dave and Julie's farm is great! The home is absolutely beautiful. Having the opportunity to feed the animals and see the farm life was great. We loved our stay! Thanks Julie and Dave!

Julie and Dave were extremely friendly and outgoing. We took our toddler with us and he had a fun time with all the animals, and Dave took to him well. Our rooms were stunning and very comfortable, and breakfast was delicious! They used as much as they could right off the farm for our food. We were very happy to have stayed here more than just one night and would definitely come back!

Julie & Dave run a beautiful home and are friendly and open people :). We especially enjoyed small gestures such as fresh flowers in rooms or walk through farm, possibility to feed a cow :). Breakfast was delicious (also musically :) )

Julie&Dave's place is just beautiful. The decoration in the whole house is made with love - everywhere you can find flowers. Julie gave us a tour through the garden and introduced us to all their farm animals. Dave cooked a great 3-course-menu for us (55$/person) - thank you again for being so spontaneously. We enjoyed our stay a lot!

Julie & Dave User ProfileJulie & Dave is a superhost.

Kia ora from Julie and Dave. Here for the Lions tour? Game drop off and pickup available. Julie is a fabric and food teacher. Dave is NZ Maori, a retired builder who enjoys deep sea fishing. He is busy caring for our many animals and bees to produce our own organic food. Both owned restaurants and like to cook. Italy is a favourite travel destination. Dave plays the clarinet and Julie the ukulele. We like latin dancing and belong to a wine club. The farm is close to Kaiapoi and Rangiora towns as well as Christchurch city so we are keen movie goers. On Fridays there is a farmers market close by in Ohoka - delicious food. On Saturday's, Lyttelton has a lovely street market with a seaside atmosphere so stay with us a few days - there is plenty to see and do.
