For bird lovers there is the famous Swell Wood Heronry at the top of the drive and the nature reserve is home to the Great Crane, a wetland icon. The Swallow's Nest is one of the few places in the UK where you can not only hear these incredibly rare birds trumpeting as they soar high in the sky but you can see them foraging for food on the Moor and during the year you will see snipe, red shanks, Cettis warblers, lapwings, yellow wagtails, skykarks, golden plover, widgeon, marsh harriers, hobbies, buzzards, kestrels, barn owls, stonechat and kingfisher and famously the starling murmurations.

We stayed with Sophie & Paddy for two nights with our 3 month old baby. The location and accommodation is absolutely stunning and we both left feeling very relaxed. We used the firehouse (recommended by Sophie) for takeaway pizzas which were great. If you want a relaxing break with brilliant food this is the place to go. Thanks again guys.

This is more like a boutique hotel because it is in a beautiful large home. The garden is extensive and we loved the chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats that are part of this very nice family. Sophie is a chef and is very knowledgeable about nature's healing herbs, which was a real plus. Having the heated towel rack in the bathroom was a nice surprise too. It was a great place to stay and the accommodation was first-class.

Sophie and her husband, Paddy, made us feel very welcome in their beautiful home and were extremely helpful in providing information about places to eat and visit in the area which helped us make the most of our brief time in this lovely part of the country. Their house is situated on the side of a bird nature reserve and surrounded by fields so is very quiet with a footpath going out from the garden. It is only a short distance to the nearest town and has some delicious restaurants nearby. The guest room and bathroom are spotless and in a separate part of the house, so you don't feel like an imposition and enables you to come and go easily. Breakfast was superb. Thank you for a lovely stay.
