This newly renovated studio is completely self contained within a secure garden of the host's house of residence. It has all you need for a relaxing visit (double bed and room for a fold extra single bed/ travel cot if requested). There are excellent transport links into London.

The space

The garden studio is brand new and located at the bottom of our garden which is a independent building to the main house. There is a code lock to enter the garden so you can come and go as you please. The bathroom is very compact with a toilet, basin and shower. All the space in the bathroom is used to its maximum capacity with little spare space so if you would prefer a larger bathroom or are of a large build this is not the property for you. The kitchen is ideal for making tea, coffee, breakfast and heating ready made meals. There is a microwave and oven and single ring ceramic hob.

Guest access

The guest can relax on the veranda outside the studio overlooking the garden and use the driveway on Ockley Road in front of the studio if driving.

Interaction with guests

As hosts we intend to always be on hand to answer questions about sight seeing, travelling around, etc. Provide our guests with any additional items within reason they require. Mrs Benson is in the daytime during part of the week.

Other things to note

Streatham is about 6 miles from the centre of London, it is conveniently reached by 3 train stations (Streatham Hill (a 10-15 min ride to Victoria train station), Streatham Common and Streatham.) Mostly we use Streatham Hill which is 6 mins walk up a convenient high street.

This has a good collection of shops and amenities: a supermarket just across the road from our house, 2 other supermarkets, several good pubs, some good restaurants, general fast food chains a Cinema (recently refurbished) and library all within 2 mins walk of the garden studio. There are 2 lovely commons (parks) at the end of our road, Tooting common, and about 10-15 mins walk Streatham Common. lots of families and dog walkers can be found on both enjoying their little oasis of green in London!

In terms of accessing the underground there are two nearby stations on the Northern Line and about a 20 minute journey to the west end; the first is Tooting Bec, which is about a 15 minute walk / 5 min bus ride door to door from our house. Then there is Balham (one station further on into the centre on the Northern line) which again is either a 15 minute walk / 5 min bus ride door to door. Many people walk up the high street to Streatham Hill overland train station and take a 5 minute train journey one stop into Balham and change there for the underground.

You can also access the Victoria Line very easily by catching a bus from a bus stop within 3 minutes of our place and catching a bus to Brixton. The routes which go to Brixton from here are (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and 250. So you never have to wait more than a few minutes for a bus.

If you want to see London by bus there is also a bus 159 which goes from the bus stop by our house into central London. Its route takes you past the Imperial War Museum, following this over the Thames into Parliament Square where Big Ben is and The Houses of Parliament. On from here it goes to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street. So are brilliant sightseeing route right into the centre.

You have the Imperial War Museum a few miles away and the vibrant Southbank with the Tate museum a mile or two further from our house.

In terms of getting to us from Gatwick there is a National Express Coach which goes every hour from Gatwick to Streatham Becmead Avenue bus stop which takes around 1 hr and is very reasonable at £8.00. So very very convenient to reach.

Heathrow, Stanstead and City Airport all are reachable by train/underground.

Luton Airport also has a direct train to Streatham from that airport.

If wishing to go to Wimbledon Tennis we are a 5 minute walk from Streatham Train Station which is short direct route to Wimbledon Train Station.

We are a 5 minute walk from Tooting Bec Lido which is the biggest outdoor swimming pool in Europe. Although not heated! Something for the brave or summer.

Prior to arriving communication was very good. We checked in without any trouble. The accomodation was very comfortable and we had everything that we could want for our short stay. It was a real bonus to have off-street parking too. The location is perfect and restaurants, pubs & shops etc. are all within a short walk. Would definitely stay again.

We had such a wonderful visit - after navigating our way through the London Underground and up from Tooting Bec (a relatively easy journey which is good considering our abysmal directional skills) we were greeted by the lovely hostess who showed us around and ensured we had everything we needed. After that, we got on with our adventures, so it was great having independent access to the annex. Plus, we found travel central London a dream once we'd sussed it out. The space itself is perfect for two, we had facilities and breathing room to unwind in the evenings and faff around in the mornings, and we were left some essentials like milk and orange juice (and a Toblerone - always crucial!) so we didn't need to stock up on too much. Although, we discovered there is a handy Lidl literally across the road in case of a biscuit shortage or some such emergency. Thank you so much, for having us and being such excellent hosts, we had a brilliant stay.
