Large, comfortable, fully self contained cottage located in the historic village of Russell.
Freedom Cottage is a well appointed, large, comfortable cottage close to restaurants, cafes and local shops. It has a private outdoor area set in an established garden.
Please note- there is NO WIFI available at the cottage at this point. I have been getting complaints about this from guests but we do not have wifi at this time. The cottage is too far away from the house and below it so the signal even with a booster is too far away.(I do however have vouchers for the wifi at Enterprise Russell in the mall and you are welcome to use our internet up at the house at any time:)
Parking out front of the cottage-room for a boat too.
Interaction with guests
You will most likely be greeted by Warren (retiring builder) and some days by Lyn (teacher at the local school).
We are situated close by and we are available to help you make the most of your stay.
Other things to note
Russell is situated on a peninsula that is accessed by vehicular ferry from Opua. The ferry runs from 7am-10pm and is the best and quickest way to Russell. Freedom Cottage is approx. 10 minutes from the car ferry.
There is a coastal road that goes off at Whakapara north of Whangarei. This road is very windy in places and adds around a hour to the journey.
Russell is a 3 and a half hour drive from Auckland Airport (sometimes a bit more over the peak season Dec 25 through till about early April) and 1 hour from Kerikeri Airport.
Leave cottage as you found it please.
Please ask us for anything you need - clean towels etc.
Enjoy your stay.
I am a long term resident of Russell and I love this part of Northland. Warren has a small yacht and we both enjoy going out around the Bay exploring the many bays and finding new fishing spots.(I didn't really catch this marlin, I just stood by it).
I work at the local school and currently teach a delightful lot of 9 to 11 year olds. Warren is a retiring builder.
We are keen gardeners and have a vege garden at the back of the cottage and you are welcome to help yourself to whatever is in season.
We live up the hill in the trees behind the cottage so if you need anything we are not far away.
Russell is a great town and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
