Suginoko and Host:
The Suginoko Guest House, which was opened in 1999, have undergone ownership change and renovation in March and April, 2016.
This is because the original owner has now become too old to continue the guest house and we three young people around thirty will be taking over. So new management will be installed and the name of the guest house will be changed to Yakushima Guesthouse Suginoko.
We are working to make the new Suginoko a place where guests meet, spend time and share their experience with each other.
Also a place as a second home fostering a new lifestyle of working away from home in the island for Yakushima lovers.

I had a great time. The guesthouse was lovely in a really tranquil spot with good access to yakusugiland and Mt miyanoura. Haruka was very kind and helpful and told us about all the local events taking place. I'd highly recommend

My stay in Suginoko guesthouse went really well, the house was nice and clean, and I especially liked their delicious packet lunchs which I ate in the middle of Yakushima mountains.

I absolutely loved my trip to yakushima! The place is located right next to a bus stop that allows you to travel to different parts of the island. But if you can, I would recommend renting a car :) With that being said, at Haruka's place you can rent bikes for 10$ a day which was super convenient! Since Haruka's place is right by the beach, I rode the bike along the coast and saw the most picturesque views. You can explore all the off the grid, beaten path areas that would not be able to access with a car. Haruka-san also prepared breakfast or an alternative option of a bento style lunch. I chose the bento style lunch and it was so adorable and delicious! Adorable because the food was packaged in a dried banana leaf(?) of some kind. The room itself was pretty small, but spotlessly clean and has all the essentials that you need with private bathroom and shower. Overall I would highly recommend this place!

Haruka welcomed into her home. She was a sweet and amazing host, helping me setup a hiking tour and cooking great tasty food. She was even gracious enough to drive me to the port for my boat, which she didn't have to. I recommend anyone to come check in with her.

Haruka was a great host that prepares anything and everything a traveler to Yakushima might need. She was always there to give advice and direction, in addition to preparing daily breakfast (or even lunch meals instead). The guest house rooms are private and individual. The entire building was renovated recently so all facilities are new. Location wise, the building is very close to the port town of Anbo, and major tourist destinations (Shiratani or Jomon trails) can be accessed via a nearby bus stop. This guest house is perfect for the traveler that lacks their own car, as Haruka has prepared all necessary transportation information already upon arrival. The only two drawbacks I encountered were the occasional large bug and spotty WiFi connection in the room. The former is addressed by the staff and they can assist you if necessary (also such creatures are natural on an island like yakushima). The latter can be solved by going to the common area for a stronger connection. Overall I recommend anyone to stay at Haruka's place!
