Neighbourhood highlights

Your property is located in the Ex Campo d’Aviazione neighborhood, 1,500 meters from the Darsena sea (south of the pier) or 1,500 meters from the sea of Viareggio center (north of the pier).
It is a residential neighborhood, semi-central, adjacent to the Darsena, quiet and silent. The street is small and quiet, with little traffic and free parking: a very rare thing for Viareggio!
Nearby there are various shops, bakeries, ice cream shops, fruit and vegetable shops, bars and the Conad supermarket in via F. Filzi n. 117.

A few steps away is the Pineta di Levante which separates the neighborhood from the sea.
Crossing the pine forest, in about 15 minutes on foot you reach the sea, on Viale Europa and the free beach of Muraglione: one of the piers of Viareggio, with the rocks, the fishing boats, the fish market, and the statues of the artist Libero Maggini from Viareggio.
From there you can admire a beautiful panorama of the docks, the piers and the Apuan Alps chain. On clear days you can see the islands of Palmaria and Tino (to the north west) and Gorgona and Capraia (to the south west).
The free beach of Muraglione is free to enter, but if you prefer services, you can go to the bathing establishments (for a fee) that offer umbrellas, deckchairs, sun loungers, lifeguards, bars, restaurants, swimming pools... The cost for an umbrella and 2 deckchairs is around €20.00 and varies from season to season.
A good choice is certainly the Vittoria bathing establishment.
Viale Europa (in Viareggio Sud) offers beautiful beach resorts and a large golden sandy beach, with bars and restaurants. In the evening it is animated by clubs, pubs, restaurants and disco-bars, becoming a renowned area of Viareggio nightlife. Among the most renowned: Fronte del porto, trattoria Bar Stadio, trattoria Nostromo, restaurant Il Porto, restaurant Da Miro, trattoria la Darsena, restaurant Da Cicero, La costa dei barbari, restaurant Onda Marina, and many others. Other beach resorts are located north of the pier, behind the Viareggio promenade.

The Passeggiata di Viareggio is a splendid pedestrian area of about 2.5 km. decorated with Art Nouveau buildings from the beginning of the last century. Beyond the Passeggiata, there are numerous beach resorts that offer umbrellas, tents, deck chairs, cabins, and bar, restaurant and swimming pool services on the sea. You'll be spoiled for choice! The (few) free beach areas are south towards the pier.
The Passeggiata di Viareggio has many commercial activities, shops, bars, ice cream parlors, restaurants to brighten up your free time, and also a beautiful bike path that leads north to Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi.
At the beginning, towards the south, you will find the famous Margherita (in perfect Art Nouveau style from the early 1900s) and the pier and port of Viareggio, which can be visited up to the lighthouse, from which you can see a beautiful glimpse of the city of Viareggio.
Beyond you will find Piazza Mazzini which overlooks the sea and where concerts and events take place in the summer and the famous Orologio (a tower clearly visible from the entire area).
The Passeggiata then continues with beautiful views of the Hotel Royal (the one near you with the two towers) and the Principe di Piemonte hotel (in Piazza Puccini). Beyond this square, the Passeggiata changes style. It has just been renovated in marble and works of art, and takes you north to Lido di Camaiore, in about 1 km. A beautiful route to do both on foot and by bike!

In the Pineta di Levante, around the Stadio dei Pini, every year there are festivals and celebrations of associations and political parties where you can taste the local cuisine at a good price.
For a suggestive aperitif at sunset I recommend the terrace of the Armanda restaurant or of the Portus al Muraglione.
Nearby is also the beautiful Viale dei Tigli: a 5 km tree-lined driveway (surrounded by two lateral cycle and pedestrian paths) that from Friday to Sunday is closed to traffic and becomes an entire cycle and pedestrian park. Viale dei Tigli connects Viareggio to Torre del Lago and leads to the nineteenth-century Villa Borbone, built in neoclassical style by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini for the Duchess of Lucca Maria Luisa Borbone. From there you immerse yourself in a natural park and arrive at the most beautiful and renowned free beach in Versilia: La Lecciona, a beautiful natural beach, quiet and isolated a stone's throw from the city.
From your apartment you can reach, in a few minutes by bike, the Darsena beach, La Lecciona and the center of Viareggio. The nearest bike rental is on Viale del Tigli
The train station (Piazza Dante) is about 1,700 meters from the apartment.

About 6 km. to the south is the hamlet of Torre del Lago Puccini, birthplace of Maestro Giacomo Puccini.
You can walk on the shores of the delightful Massaciuccoli lake, visit the maestro's house museum and listen to one of his works at the Gran Teatro Puccini.

My goal is to introduce the culture and history of my city to anyone interested. I see too often masses of tourists who always go to the same places that are not even the most beautiful or characteristic. On the other hand, I want my guests to try what it means to be locals to really know what it means to live in my city. Let's avoid mass tourism together, I'll let you discover the most secret places!
