The space

This cabin is one of two located on our nine acre river front, mountain view property. We have honey bees ( not near the cabins), chickens, blueberries, and our organic garden (near the cabin). We are less than a mile from the Appalachian trail, and we have 1200 feet of Nolichuckey river frontage, including a class 3 rapid. Rafting, kayaking, fishing, and hiking are all available on or near the property. The cabin is about 100 yards from the river.
We know that we are truly fortunate to live in this wonderful spot, and we love to share it with others. We strive to provide a simple but clean and comfortable, relaxing getaway. We are committed to environmental responsibility, humanely raised free ranging chickens and have electric composting toilets in each cabin.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to enjoy any part of our property. We have hammocks, chairs, and picnic tables, fire rings and wood at the cabins, and closer to the river. We also provide charcoal grills.

Interaction with guests

We can provide information on a variety of outdoors activities in the area as well as in Asheville, NC (45 minutes) and surrounding region of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Beautiful sections of the AT are close by along with other hiking trails with mountain vistas and or waterfalls. The Nolichucky Gorge is just upriver , and the rafting companies are about 1.5 miles from us. The new Rocky Fork State Park is about 10 minutes.

We are 25 minutes from Jonesborough, TN, home of the international Storytelling Festival and about 45 minutes from Bristol Motor Speedway.

Other things to note

Though we love animals and have dogs of our own, we cannot allow animals in the cabin due to proximity to our chickens, possible allergies of other guests, and health department regulations.

Trying to describe the unique experience this property offers is difficult to say the least. The property is located in the quiet, peaceful and quaint town of Erwin, Tennessee. The Appalachian trail passes through this town and is approximately less than 1 mile from the cabin. The nolichucky river is a very short walk from the cabin and offers amazing picturesque views of majestic mountains. My family and I stayed at the Oza cabin one of two cozy, clean and environmentally conscious cabins on the Catarasso farm. Yes, the cabins are located on a organic chicken and honey farm. We stayed three nights and considered extending our trip an additional night due to our extremely positive experience here. My family and I we're touring different mountain cabins in Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. Peggy and Mike could not have been nicer to us. From offering us the best recommendations on nearby hikes, restaurants and other cool things to see to thoughtfully offering my 9 y/o son the opportunity to participate in some daily chicken farmer duties. He will definitely remember that experience for the rest of his life. He cannot stop talking about his chicken farmer job, lol. The interactions with Peggy and Mike is one of the priceless features of renting this property. The cabin interior was very clean, cozy and had plenty of goodies (coffee, starter snacks, body soap, few bottles of water and even a small thoughtful bottle of champagne to bring in the new year) Very comfortable beds, pillows, blankets, etc... We highly recommend this rental to anyone desiring to experience a truly unique and special time in the Tennessee mountains.

Beautiful, rustic, and relaxing. It was exactly what we needed for a quick fall getaway. The views of the mountains are incredible. We took a lovely stroll through the woods by the creek and couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was. If you're looking for a luxury sweet with elegant furnishings, this is not for you. If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful, slightly rustic getaway, I highly recommend it. Mike was very friendly as well.

This place is wonderful! New to Charlotte, NC, my family and I decided to take a last minute trip to the Asheville to see the foliage. This cabin offered us the perfect balance of the outdoor experience without all the work of camping - and a great value. The cabin itself is adorable and clean. It has 2 comfy double beds and bunk beds. It has heat and AC but we opened the windows and enjoyed the mountain air. We brought a pack n' play for our toddler and had plenty of room for that. There is hot water and a nice stand up shower. The toilet is compost which worked surprisingly well, no odor or grossness. The bathroom area has curtains so there is some privacy, but this is not a closed door experience (if this is important to you). They have a toaster oven and skillet which they ask you use on the porch, so we cooked and ate a few meals outdoors which we loved. The cabin is steps from the river which we loved. The hosts recommended we hike the Appalachian Trail Saturday and visit Beauty Spot Saturday evening for the sunset. These were the best recommendations we could have gotten, as both were fantastic. For our first time visiting the area we couldn't believe what a perfect experience we had in the TN mountains, thanks to the hosts recommendations. We are already talking about booking both cabins (there is another close by) with a bigger group next year.

Peggy and Mike were fantastic hosts - very responsive and had great recs for local things to do in the area (even ran into them at the local storytelling festival). Listing was accurate, and we enjoyed walking around the property and taking a short hike nearby on the Appalachian Trail. Would definitely stay again.

Peggy User ProfilePeggy is a superhost.

My husband, Mike, and I moved to this country property on the Nolichucky River in 2010 where we built a house and began developing a bee farm and homestead. Mike is a retired educator, and I am a semi-retired psychologist and professor. We are both avid paddlers, hikers, and campers who love the outdoors. We enjoy sharing our beautiful mountain view, river-front property with others.
