The space

Our apartment is on the second floor with stairs in the front and back of the building. The guest room has a comfortable Queen size bed with a window, dresser and closet. You'll have shared access to the kitchen, bathroom, and living room.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to use our spacious, eat-in kitchen (cupboard and fridge space provided) to make meals. The kitchen is fully stocked with a stove/oven, fridge, coffee maker, toaster oven, kettle, rice cooker, and most other things needed for cooking!

Our living area gets lots of afternoon light, making it great for reading or hanging out.

We usually have an extra bike or two available for getting around Toronto (particularly convenient and fun way to see the city in the summer). Let us know if you'd like to use them.

Interaction with guests

We would love to have you come stay with us, whether you're looking for a quiet crash pad or want to sit with us for a meal. We're just as happy to have dinner or a drink with you as we are to let you have a quiet evening.

Ellen is available during the day if you run into any trouble or have questions about the city/the apartment. Kay works during the day but is around most evenings.

The neighbourhood

We're right in the middle of the Brockton Village/Dufferin Grove. We're in the west end of Toronto, central enough to downtown that you can be there quickly (15 mins. by transit or bike) but far enough away to have a neighbourhood feel.

We're close to Little Portugal and Little Italy. Walking distance from Queen St. West (that super hip neighbourhood, #2 in the world according to Vogue magazine), Roncesvalles (Polish origins, now gentrified BBQ and cheese shops), and Trinity-Bellwoods (big park for summer hanging, hipster central).

We love the big park that's close by (Dufferin Grove park, 4-minute walk) as it has fire pits, skating rinks, year-round farmer's markets on Thursdays 3-7pm, community meals on Fridays, communal gardens, and seasonal festivals.

We love the nearby Brockton Haunt (friendly cafe), Phoenix restaurant (Vietnamese), Me & Mine (hipster brunch), Tavoos (Persian brunch), Burdock (bar/restaurant/music venue with its own craft beer), and the local Portuguese bakeries/restaurants. You can get groceries at one of two large grocery stores (8-minute walk away) or, in a pinch, at the well-stocked Polaris convenience store on our block.

There is lots of free street parking on weekends. For weekdays, we recommend parking for free on a side street (and for weekday evenings, you can park on a main street for free though you'll have to move the car onto the side street in the morning). We also have a Green P parking lot in the back (24 hours costs $6).

Getting around

You can get most places you need to by walking. Our favourite cafes and restaurants are all on our block (1-2 mins. walk). There's also a well-stocked, 24-hour convenience store 1-minute away. The two large grocery stores are both 8-minute walks away.

Can often be provided upon request - just ask!

There is a 24-hour bus and 24-hour streetcar stops close-by (100m, 1 min. walk, $3.25 cash fare). The 29/329 Dufferin bus takes you to the subway (which takes you all over the city) in 5 mins. The 506 College streetcar takes you downtown (Queen's Park, U of T, Bay St., etc.) in 15 mins.

You can quickly flag down a taxi or call an Uber out front if you need.

The Union-Pearson Express train is close-by (2 km, 5 mins. drive) and takes 17 mins. to get to Pearson International Airport ($5.65 one way for adults).

Other things to note

We have one other AirBnB room so you may meet other travellers during your stay.

Our home can be cool in the winter but we provide a personal heater in your room so that you can adjust the temperature to your comfort.

Kay and Ellie were friendly and lovely hosts, a perfect introduction to my move to Toronto. They were even great enough to let me order my new laptop to their address! Their neighbourhood is fantastic, bustling with restaurants, cafes, a mall, music venues and public transport. Could not recommend enough.

Born and raised in Toronto. I know this city well and can give tours of many neighbourhoods. I've also had the opportunity to travel to a number of countries and like hearing about where people are from. I live with my partner Ellen in our west end Toronto apartment.

I love swapping podcasts, playing dodgeball, and reading the New York Times Magazine on Sunday.
