An historic Gate House built as the entrance to the Bishop of Wells's Palace when he moved to Somerset to escape the Plague. Perfect home for a relaxing break with a stunning walled garden on the edge of the churchyard. Very quiet! Plenty of great walks and sites to visit in the area. There is a local ginger cat who visits the house. He is very sweet but not mine! (People have asked) He makes himself at home if the door is left open and is very friendly! :-)

The space

There is a large sitting room with log burner. Perfect hang out on a winters day. Family sized kitchen finished with granite work tops and a wooden kitchen table. Electric range oven. Downstairs loo. Three good sized double bedrooms upstairs and two bathrooms, one with shower one with bath. There is also a lovely big garden and parking for three cars.

Guest access

There is one car space in front of house next to the arch on the right and two-three spaces in the drive way jutting into the garden.

Interaction with guests

I am always just on the other end of the phone but if you need someone to come in, it can be arranged.

Other things to note

We have parking for 3 cars in the driveway which is in the garden and one more space at the end of the private lane, just before the archway, in front of our side of gatehouse.

This is a charming, warm and welcoming house. It is historic, and quirky and arty and lovely. Emma was very organised - all the key-collection and other instructions worked very well. The location is great, very quiet and peaceful. Lovely garden. Plenty of space. On a practical note there is a Co-op within walking distance. Always handy. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend the house and would go there again if in the area.

Response from Emma:

My friends and I stayed here for a couple of nights over the August bank holiday. We all had a lovely time and were very impressed with the beautifully decorated house and sizeable garden. We had everything we needed - the kitchen is well stocked with enough to cook a large meal. We especially enjoyed using the fire pit in the garden. There is also plenty of parking available. The surroundings are very peaceful and Wiveliscombe is surrounded by the most stunning countryside. Exmoor National Park is only 30 minutes drive away. Thank you Emma for being such a wonderful host!

What a wonderful tranquil place to stay yet a quick stroll to local shops and pubs. We found the house to have everything we needed with a homely, arty atmosphere we loved. The garden is shelteted and pretty with views of the historic church. The village is so friendly we were welcomed with a smile wherever we went. You could not fail to want to stay longer!

Emma's house is excellent for a get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The cottage itself is really cosy with a good size kitchen diner, enough to comfortably seat 6 people. The sitting room while feeling cosy is actually large enough for 3 couches, a table and a rocking chair with still plenty space to move around! The garden is large too so great for the kids! When we arrived the place was spotless, thanks Emma for being a great host!
