Description

The space

This was a family home until the 1930'd, when the upstairs was converted into two apartments. We rent the lakeside & new this year, we present the tower suite. Guests have about 1,000 sq. ft. & private entrance. We live on the main floor and try to be available if you have any questions.

Guest access

We have a new driveway as of 4-20-16. It does require AWD or 4WD to maneuver the hill, otherwise parking is above on the road as usual. I can provide coffee for the c.maker. If you wish to cook, the kitchen has the necessary equipment--your food (: Otherwise, there is a sweet coffee shop about 3 blocks away. There is a small basketball court. We have lake access, though it's steep stairs to the water. It's very hilly & forested--so beautiful. The city beach & pier are just a block away.

Interaction with guests

We meet you upon arrival & that is all unless you have any questions. Paul & I know the area very well & are happy to help you with directions or any questions you have.

The neighbourhood

The lake has so many moods depending on the weather. We watch glorious sunsets & impressive storms. I walk daily from lakeshore to forested hills & enjoy the changes in nature & the animals. I take a lot of pics--if you know of Instagram see theater on my gallery, named: mbtmn. Last but not least, the people are so friendly. This is a great area for biking, fishing, golfing, & has some wonderful restaurants. There are also a lot of artists, many showing their creations in local stores.

Getting around

It's easy to drive anywhere or bike--you can choose between the challenging hills or the flat bike friendly areas & the 10 mile bike tour.

Other things to note

We have a dog downstairs & I'll be sure to keep home out of your way. If you like dogs, he's a friendly black lab.

Mary and Paul offer wonderful hospitality in the quaint, peaceful town of Ortonville. I stayed on the tower side of their BnB, which fit my needs as a solo traveler perfectly. The lake is beautiful, even in the winter months, and there are state parks and hiking close by as well. I would definitely suggest staying in this beautiful castle!

My favorite things are photography, writing, sculpting, and meeting new people who come through this little town. I walk everyday, love my family, reading, and growing flowers. I like food, but can't seem to commit to cooking, and always drop everything for storm clouds or a lovely sunset. As a host, I care that your beds are clean and comfortable (pillow tops), that everything is decorated well, and you get quiet for a good night's sleep. I've lived here for my forever and can direct you to nearly anything the area has to offer or know someone who can. I have lots of connections to help you have a great time. We have a 130-year-old home located on Big Stone Lake. It's pretty here, in the middle of the prairies, we are hills, valleys, trees, and water. My motto I suppose would be respect everyone and the earth.
