Centrally located in a vibrant residential neighborhood. If this is your first time in Salvador, you should take time to do your homework about the city and how to travel safely. We loved being able to walk around the corner to cafes, bars, street vendors and be immersed in the local culture. People were very nice and helpful when we needed advice. Going beyond the Largo 2 de Junho area is recommended to take a taxi or bus. We did both to get to Pelourinho area and the Barra areas. Forget Uber since it is not yet common and the drivers seem to not know how to get there. (We had two cancel with no explanation) Taxi drivers right on the corner will give you a fair price and they are very friendly. The bus works great too, and only costs R$3.60. Just check your route carefully. The room was comfortable and had a fan which helped with the heat and air circulation. High ceilings too! The bathroom was right next to the room and shared with other guests. You have access to kitchen and filtered water. We cooked one night, but ended up eating at local lanchonetes, bars and restaurants. Good prices and decent food. Mark and his family were very friendly and gave us helpful suggestions for safe travel and places to see in the city. We recommend this stay for people who know how to travel and want to experience Salvador living like a local.

We had a great stay at Mark's place in Salvador! The bed was really comfortable and Mark and his wife very helpful and nice! The location is good to explore the city and to eat breakfast or drink a beer at night. We were able to wash clothes for only 5 reais! We would absolutely recommend this place! Thanks Mark!

This place is very comfortable, Evany and Mark are lovely and kind hosts. This is such an authentic residential neighborhood in Salvador, I really felt I got a taste of the city by staying here and experiencing the dynamic of the market, shops and neighbors. Very lively and safe during the day, I would advise using taxi/uber when coming home late at night. All in all, totally recommend it!

Mark and his whife are both nice People, always open for a Chat. The comunication before check in was very good too. The room was clean as the other open to use parts of the house. Specially the possibility of taking a warm shower in the end of the day without having to fear electric shocks thanks to a gas heater was very nice. We could use the kitchen and the living room and got tips for nice things to do and see in the city. The house is situated in an very old "brasilian" part of the city, a fact that we enjoyed a lot, cause we had a daily fair very near by, little bars, supermarkets, restaurants and other stores that local people visit too, so you can feel a bit how average brasilian people live.

Mark and his family make us feel like a t home from the first moment. The house its self is very colorful and interesting. The location is in about 20 min walk from the historical center. Place I would recommend for the price.

This room is incredibly well located, in an authentic and lively neighbourhood, only a 15 minute walk from Pelhourinho. Mark was really useful, giving advice about the safest route walking to Pelhourino. It's true the room can be noisy at night, but this is just part of the experience of living in a bustling area; anyone who has lived in a city before should be able to sleep through any noise.

I was born here in Salvador and wouldn't trade it for any place in the world. I am Baiana heart and soul, I love the city, the music, Carnaval, everything! I work at home and I love to cook. If you are interested I can teach you to make muqueca!
