Experience the slower pace of camping but with the comforts of glamping in your own private field!
Enjoy beautiful countryside, gorgeous sunsets, wildlife and farm animals.
Our off-grid shepherd hut sleeps two people. It is super-cosy and comfortable with a wood burner to take off any chill!
Next to it is your own private bathroom with hot shower and a covered kitchen.
Dogs are welcome! (1 large or 2 small in the hut).
You are also welcome to bring two tents for an additional 4 people
The space
This shepherd hut started out as someone else’s unfinished project…
We’ve put in a super cosy, small-double, cabin bed (linen supplied), sofa and stable door so that you can enjoy the beautiful view. There’s also a small but mighty wood burner you can boil a kettle on! (The guard for this is made from an old oil drum- we love a bit of repurposing!)
Under the bed is the trunk the farmer arrived at nearby Moulton College with in the 1960s! It’s now on wheels and doubles up as storage and a table. There’s also a taller table stored under there and space for your dog beds. (The hut is realistically big enough for one large or two small dogs and two adults).
The shepherd hut is completely off-grid with a solar panel supplying the lights and USB charging points for phones and laptops.
The steps and patio are the repurposed walls of a silage pit where cattle feed was stored! They are quite high and, even though there is a hand rail, this is the main reason the hut isn’t suitable for small children.
Next to the hut is your own private utility block, split into an open camp kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen has a single gas hob and is well equipped for semi-outdoor cooking. It even has a gas powered fridge! There is hot water for the sink and adjacent shower, courtesy of a gas powered water heater.
There is a clotheshorse for drying towels in the bathroom (we recommend you bring quick drying travel towels). There is a solar powered security light to illuminate the way to the bathroom at night and another in the bathroom itself.
There is a charcoal BBQ, fire pit and bistro set with two chairs. Feel free to bring your own camping chairs for extra outdoor comfort!
There is parking next to the entrance to the glamping field and a trolley for transporting your belongings to the hut.
We keep the grass short but wellies are good idea if it’s wet!
You will currently have the whole field to yourselves! Please be aware that the two patches of long grass are obscuring the foundations for two more units that we hope to build. The field is completely fenced in but we never promise anything is ‘dog proof’ (we have a terrier after all!). If you allow your dog the run of the field please be mindful of guests in the cabin and that their dogs may be in the enclosed garden.
There is access onto three public footpaths that cross the farm and beautiful walks to be had to the nearby villages.
We have an abundance of wildlife on the farm including red kites, little owls, buzzards, hares, foxes and badgers. You will also be able to watch the sheep and cows in the adjacent fields during the summer months.
The glamping field used to be the farm’s ‘storage’ area. Several tons of scrap metal were removed to create this beautiful space! After the dairy cows were sold in 2019 the farm entered an environmental scheme. Half the fields are now full of wild bird seed and nectar flowers. Half is still pasture, rented to the farmer next door. We have seen a huge increase in biodiversity over the past few years.
Relax, unwind and enjoy being in the heart of the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside!
Guest access
You currently have the whole 0.5 hectare glamping field to yourselves!
The shepherd hut sleeps 2 people and one large or two small dogs (and isn’t suited to young children). You can bring an extra 4 people in a maximum of two tents and an extra two dogs.
There is enough parking for 3 cars at the entrance to the field. A trolley is provided to transport your belongings.
The field is fully fenced but we never say it’s ‘dog proof’ so roaming dogs need to be supervised and poo picked up!
The guests in the cabin might have dogs in their enclosed garden, so please communicate with them about how reactive their dogs may be.
As well as the cosy shepherd hut you have your own private shower room and camp kitchen.
You can walk through certain parts of the farm to access the public footpaths. A map will be provided!
Other things to note
Dogs are super welcome but please wipe their feet when going into the shepherd hut and please don’t let them on the sofa or bed.
This is a no-smoking property. Vaping is allowed outdoors.
The camp kitchen door has to be locked open for gas safety reasons (plus this is glamping, so you’re cooking whilst connected to the outdoors!).
Please use the stand outside for wellies and outdoor shoes.
Make sure you bring a torch for walking across the field at night! (You’ll need wellies in the wetter months!).
Situate tents near the shepherd hut but obviously keep the BBQ and fire pit a safe distance away. There’s no need to bring camping stoves as you have a hob in the kitchen!
We sometimes hold events at the farm (check out the Elliotts’ Rectory Farm website if you’re interested!). We’ll let you know at the time of booking if there’s anything happening when you plan to stay.
