Interaction with guests
Makame, our caretaker, is a star and will be happy to help if you have any questions. These are numbers for Tom, our tuk tuk driv) and/or Njuguna, a reliable taxi driver/car hire(+).
Tikitimaji is about an 8 minute walk to the nearest beach. The beach is sandy, quiet and free from hawkers/sellers. Walk to the main road and looking to your right you will see a road diagonally opposite which leads directly to the beach.
Watamu village (approximately 2km from the house) has 2 supermarkets (Blue Marmalade and Mama Lucy's), pharmacies, banks, a post office, hardware stores, lots of stalls selling fruit and vegetables and curios, and there are lots of restaurants. Ocean Sports has a lovely deck overlooking the ocean and serves good food at reasonable prices. There are a few great Italian ice cream cafés and many local restaurants. Ask the tuk tuk driver to point them out.
Most of the hotels can offer snorkeling, diving, dolphin watching, fishing trips and Turtle Bay Hotel offers dhow trips on Mida Creek and safaris further afield. Tabia ( offices next to Blue Marmalade Supermarket ) can arrange very reasonable price safaris to the Mara, Tsavo and other areas. She is reliable. There is a Snake Park, Butterfly Farm and Gede Ruins and Arabuko Forest all relatively close and worth a visit.
Malindi has a large Nakumatt supermarket which is well stocked (20km away from Watamu).
Other things to note
Should the gas run out, there is a spare bottle in the store. Please ask Makame during the day or our askari ( guard) at night. If you have any problems which Makame is unable to deal with please see Roy and Clare, our neighbours who live next door.
Please no glass around pool. There are lots of plastic glasses. Thank you.
