The owner, an archaeologist and art historian, has furnished the two-storied traditional high ceiling residence with original furniture, to create a welcome atmosphere for the guests. Its positive aura, as well as its simplicity will take you back in time. The house is near the central square of Glossa, and also close to the Folklore and the Marine Museums. Glossa is a peaceful village and the second largest settlement on the NW part of Skopelos.

The space

The house
Like most of the traditional houses in the village, ours also has Macedonian influences, which you can see in its two-storied construction, tiled roof, wooden balcony and the tiny wc on it.
The house, consists of two large living areas (6 x 7m) and a basement.
Through the main door, you enter the ground floor, where you’ll find the living room (which also serves as the dining room) and a double bed. In case needed, an additional single bed is available (bunk).
Via an internal wooden staircase, you enter the first floor. On that level, there is a double bedroom and two single beds. From this floor, you access the balcony, where you will also find a small WC. From the balcony, the view to Skiathos, Euboea and Pelion is breathtaking.
Both rooms are wide and bright, but you can use the shutters to create plenty of shade to relax and stay cool during the middle of the day.
In the basement, there is a small kitchen which can be used to prepare simple meals in the traditional way on the fire, as well as a large bathroom. The basement can be accessed both by an outdoor passage via the alley, or internally via a traditional hatch in the ground (the outdoor route requires less agility!).
Currently, the house does not have Wi-Fi, but the central square is only a short walk away, and there you can find Wi-Fi connections, as well as coffee and well cooked food (accompanied by live music some evenings).
The neighborhood is very peaceful and you will be close to mini markets, grocery shops, the bakery and the pharmacy (all within a 10min distance).
It is a beautiful traditional house, not only in its structure, but also in the way it’s furnished and decorated. You will see from the pictures that it has plenty of charm, and in many ways is the antidote to a modern hotel. It will be appreciated by any visitors that wish to experience a traditional country house, with all its charms and unique aura. It will transport you to another era.
As for Skopelos, the island is ideal for anyone who is passionate about trekking, thanks to the beautiful surroundings that one can enjoy early in the morning or in the evening for sunsets. You can walk to the port of Loutraki along the country path, which is a 30-minute walk through the nearby hills. There is also a great variety of beautiful shores, both organized, as well as pristine and wild. While you’re here, we definitely recommend you taste the famous “loukoumades” (doughnuts) and the traditional fried cheesepie, among other delicacies.
We will also be at your disposal for any assistance needed.

Guest access

Getting here
Whether you are arriving from the port of Loutraki or the main port of Skopelos situated in Chora (Skopelos), you can reach the house by bus, which will take you to the edge of the village. This runs every 3 hours (URL HIDDEN)
Depending on your personal circumstances, we would suggest a car or a motorbike would be the best option. The parking lot is located outside the settlement, around 6-10 minutes depending on your pace. Of course, you can access the next alley up to that of our house by car, and cover the final steps to the residence on foot through the paved stairs (a.k.a “kalnterimia”). However cars cannot be parked in these narrow alleyways, so you would need to take your car back to the parking if you opt for this. Whilst not as inconvenient as it sounds, this access is common to most houses in the village, which was built long before the invention of cars!

Because getting to the house with your rented small car requires knowledge of the village and being familiar to drive in its narrow medieval streets, using a taxi to arrive and depart will help you a lot, with a small cost of just 15 Euros.

Interaction with guests

΅We are going to welcome you at the house and inform you for the high spot places of the island. We also have at home, near the fireplace, a booklet with all the necessary information for both the stay at home and the choices you have in the village and the island.

We enjoyed the privilege of staying in this ancient village, getting a sense of how people live or used to live, away from the more touristy areas. The house is beautiful and, as advertised, full of folkloric objects and antiques. However, as a place to live it's not very convenient and, for older people or children, positively hazardous. The town is magical and the people are gracious and friendly. Because of the narrow streets and many steps, you can't reach the house by car and have to park quite far away. Inside the house is beautiful, with wooden staircases and ceilings, and a fireplace, it has a lot of charm and looks like a traditional village home. However, it's a difficult place to live in. The kitchen & bathroom are in a cellar, access to them is very difficult, even dangerous, you have to lift a hatch in the floor and lower yourself down some awkward steps. The kitchen is not suitable for any serious cooking, and eating in that space would be cold and uncomfortable. The bathroom is modern with a good shower. There are many lovely personal belongings and antiques but we were worried about knocking things over. Both of the main rooms are quite dark unless you open the windows and shutters. The balcony isn't really big enough to sit on, and the toilet there was useful but also tiny and awkward to get to. If you're worried about creature comforts, this isn't the perfect place, but if you want to get a sense of authentic village life, you'll enjoy staying in this traditional Glossa home.

Response from Iris:
Dear Nancy, Thank you for choosing our home for your stay in Greece, and for your feedback. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed the house's traditional style, and that you got to experience Skopelos' unique setting, though we're sorry that the house was not completely as you expected. Our home has been fully renovated so that our guests can stay in comfort, but of course, we have not changed the layout of the rooms or their features, as we want to preserve its unique history. We hope that the house's quirks are part of its charm, for travellers that want to stay in a traditional Glossa village and experience island life in this magical part of Greece. But just to make sure, we have updated our description so that this is clear for any future guests. Thanks again, and we'd be happy to host you in Skopelos if you get the chance to return. Iris

Christiana was the perfect host. Extremely helpful and communicative. She helped us get to Skopelos and book our motobike. The house itself is absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend it.

Merci!
