THE BEST TIMES TO VISIT VENICE
We love November and January because it is no crowded and you can see the real face of Venice.
But Venice at any time of the year is wonderful !
Hat and glove weather but absolutely no crowded, no queues to enter museums or to take the boat.
Best time to have a one/two day trip to Dolomite Mountains !
A national holiday, Epiphany is officially the 12th day of Christmas and one on which Italian children celebrate the arrival of La Befana,
a good witch. In Venice, Befana is also celebrated with a regatta – La Regatta delle Befane – which sees men dressed up like the witch racing boats in the Grand Canal.
Carneval in Venice, what else to say ?
Carnevale is one of Venice's biggest traditions and thus one of Venice's busiest times for tourism. Travelers from all around the world crowd into Venice for Italy's most famous Carnival
which include masquerade balls, parades on both land and in the canals, food fairs, children's carnivals and numerous other activities.
Valentine's Day (Festa di San Valentino).
Only in recent years has Italy begun to celebrate the feast day of Saint Valentine with hearts, love letters, and romantic candlelight dinners.
Some museums also offer two-for-one admissions for couples on Valentine's Day. Celebrate by going for a gondola ride and kissing under the famous Bridge of Sights or splurging for a drink at an outside table in Saint Mark's Square in the evening.
Tourists, rather than locals, tend to crowd Venice around Easter time.
But that doesn't mean that you cannot take in some lovely pageants, classical music concerts, and Easter services in Venice during Holy Week.
Good time for explore three famous islands of the Venetian Lagoon – Murano, Torcello and Burano: stop at a glass-blowing factory on Murano,
visit Venice's first cathedral on the tranquil island of Torcello and shop for handcrafted lace on Burano.
Great weather to visit Venice. The Settimana delle Beni Culturali is a week celebrated all over Italy,
in which state-run museums and monuments are open for free and, sometimes, for longer hours. Some museums in Venice that participate include the Accademia,
the Ca d'Oro, and the Archeological Museum, among many others.
The week almost always happens in April, but check the Beniculturali website for definitive dates.
Perfect weather to discover the gardens in Venice, While Venice hosts boating events year-round, the warm days of May kick-start the boat racing season.
The best-known of these races is the Vogalonga, a rowing competition that accepts competitors from around the world.
La Biennale. The months-long contemporary arts extravaganza that is the Venice Biennale begins in June every other year during odd-numbered years and runs through November.
Art Night Venezia. To ring in summer, Venice holds a Saturday night of free museum admissions, special events and concerts lasting until midnight or later, similar to White Nights held in other European cities.
If you want a beach escape, the closest place to go is Venice Lido, easily reached by vaporetto from Saint Mark's Square. While the beaches will be crowded, it will probably be a welcome relief from the heat. Summer in Venice is heralded by the Sagra di Sant’Antonio, the 13th June Feast of St Anthony.
Sun, beaches, boat trips around the lagoon.
If you're planning to visit Venice in July,
you may wish to time your itinerary to coincide with the Festa del Redentore, July's biggest event. As the festival is accompanied by fireworks and a rowing competition,
it is an especially exciting time to visit. After a relaxing day at the beach, treat yourself to cocktails and/ or a meal at Blue Moon (the public beach’s bar) or Caribe (just south of the Excelsior Hotel), where you may even stumble uponlive music.
Venice is simply full of churches and during the summer months many host outdoor festivals of live rock and jazz music, dancing, local Venetian cuisine, broadcasted soccer matches and other various entertainment in their campi.
It’s a lovely tradition that will have you feeling like a local in no time. Events mostly happen during the weekend, but watch out for the Sagra posters that are sprinkled around town for details.
Venice tends to have a higher tourist to local ratio during August. But some of those tourists may be international celebrities who come to Venice to attend the world-famous Venice Film Festival, which usually takes place at the end of the month.
The Venice Film Festival is an annual internationally known film festival which sees a bevy of stars and starlets grace the gondolas and red carpets of the Canal City. You'll find outdoor movies and concerts in several squares around Venice, such as Campo San Polo, look for posters on walls telling about outdoor events.
September usually starts with a buzz, as Venetians return to find their city in the cinematic spotlight with the annual Venice Film Festival. The buzz continues with the Regata Storica, Venice's biggest boat racing event of the year.
October is perhaps the loveliest month in Venice, when the sunshine mellows and the great marble facades of the Grand Canal palazzi reflect most perfectly in the shimmering water.
But don’t expect it to be crowd-free. Venice's famous opera house La Fenice is a great place to see an opera, even if you are not an opera fan. Visit the Teatro La Fenice website for details on schedules and tickets.
The International Festival of Contemporary Music organized by La Biennale feature many surprising events, dedicated to the different expressions of space and voice. Beside the founding masters of modernity,
many new names from the most recent generations bear witness to the vitality of today’s music.
November is our favourite month in Venice .
There are less tourists than in other months.
November tends to be the wettest month and also there is a strong chance of aqua alta (Venice with aqua alta is unique and fascinating!) . On the plus side,
the Salute festival takes place in November and this is a unique Venetian experience. Walking around Venice in november at the night (it is not dangerous) is a amazing experience. You feel like in a gothic movie !
Watch Don't look now movie before coming is highly recommended!
From December until mid-January, the festive Christmas market in Campo Santo Stefano is filled with stalls selling quality Venetian handicrafts, including nativity crafts, children's toys, and seasonal treats. Food, drink, and music are also part of the festivities.
