Guest access
Guests have access to all part of the main house. Guests have access to all parts of the main house, built by Sir Joseph Salt, with a little help from the Duke of Devonshire.

There is parking at the property, a sunken front garden with a natural waterfall, amazing views, and patios to both sides of the property to sit and relax in the shade, or watch the stars at night.

You will have direct access to miles of National Park footpaths from within the gardens. We have a two acre nature reserve with 700 newly planted trees and rush meadows along the side of the drive - we’d respectfully ask that dogs are leashed on the footpath when using the footpath through that area.

Other things to note
We welcome well behaved pets. We do however ask that pets are not allowed on soft furnishings or upstairs for hygiene reasons.

An extra fee may be incurred if any items are soiled or damaged. Feel free to bring along your pet beds and blankets. The utility room is plenty big enough for several dog beds etc.

The property has two log burning stoves, so please feel free to bring along fuel to enjoy cosy evenings

Due to the remote rural location and 450 year age of our home, we respectfully request that you embrace the occasional visitor, be it a spider or our resident barn owl.

Neighbourhood highlights

Elkstones is a tiny village in the Staffordshire Moorlands, close to the Derbyshire border and within the Peak District National Park.

Made up of two parts – Upper and Lower Elkstone – it is particularly beautiful and unspoilt, positioned on the hillside below Morridge and affording lovely views for most of its residents.

There are plenty of places to see and visit around Elkstones. Whether you love hiking or cycling, Elkstones is in a region where many hidden gems are waiting to be explored and visited, these include:

The Roaches
Chrome Hill
Parkhouse Hill
Thorpe Cloud

We are close to the Derbyshire border (you have to write Derbyshire on any mail if you want it to arrive) and inside the Peak District National Park.

Being on the road to nowhere it is exceptionally quiet and tranquil, and home to the tiny St John the Baptist church. We are small but like to think we’re perfectly formed!

The history book on the coffee table will tell you much more about its gritstone cottages and those that live and farm the area.

The Winking Man, a pub about 6 or 7 minutes drive, overlooking the gritstone edges of the Peak District, is an excellent place to go for their infamous Fish Fridays.
