A quiet and very comfortable double room in a luxurious apartment building, right in the city center of Rotterdam. All the best shops, restaurants and bars are within a 5 minute walk. The rest of the city can be reached easily by bike. The rent includes two bicycles!
The double room is spacious with a comfortable boxspring bed. Although you are right in the heart of the city, the room is very quiet and dark at night. There is good closet space for your clothes and other items as well. There is no desk in the room but you can use the dinner table in the living room for your tea or breakfast or if you want to do some work.
Apart from the spacious double room you can use the bathroom (with bath and shower) and kitchen of the apartment, and enjoy the great view from the living room. Fresh linen and towels will be supplied. No breakfast is supplied, but there are two supermarkets very close by to stock up on breakfast items that you can store in my fridge. Feel free to use kitchen items and the dinner table as you please.
The apartment has no balcony, but there is a shared balcony one flight up. Usually it's very quiet and with a great view of the city. I have some foldout chairs you can take there for a glass of wine in the evening.
Interaction with guests
I will stay in the apartment at the same time you are there, but usually I will be away during the day. In the evenings you can ask me for tips on food or culture, local transport etc.
The neighborhood has all the restaurants, bars and shops you could wish for. The apartment is right in the middle of the hip Laurenskwartier. The new 'Markthal' is a couple of steps away. Beautiful museums like Boymans van Beuningen and the Kunsthal are within walking/cycling distance too.
A bit further away you can enjoy views of the river Maas from the Erasmus bridge, do a tour of the harbor on the Spido, go to the top of the Euromast, enjoy a picnic in the Kralingse Bos, visit historic Delfshaven or the beautiful Blijdorp zoo. All these attractions are within a 15 minute bike ride.
A favorite of many visitors turns out to be the Wilhelminapier with Hotel New York (just across the Erasmus bridge) and the Fenixloods and the SS Rotterdam a bit further on on the Katendrecht peninsula. All easily reached by bike as well.
The apartment is a five minute walk from the Blaak train/metro/tram station. Or about 15 minutes (1 km) from Central station. Most attractions are within walking distance and all are within cycling distance.
Other things to note
The apartment complex 'De Hofdame' is in a quiet street. Much entertainment is nearby, maybe that is why the residents enjoy the peace and quiet of the Hofdame so much. Please respect this, so no loud music, no parties or loud talking in the courtyard garden at night, etcetera.
- please close all windows and lock the front door when you leave the house
- non-smokers are preferred! My house is smoke free and smoking outside the house isn't appreciated by the neighbors. So if you smoke regularly you may not want to stay at my place
- please take care of the wooden floor in the living room. So no high heels or black soles
- no visitors please
- please respect the piece and quiet of the apartment complex, so no music or loud talking in the evening on the galery or in the shared garden
- bikes get stolen easily in The Netherlands, so always lock them well by using the provided chain to lock them together
- by using the bikes you agree to a compensation of €50 per bike in case you lose one (if you use the chain to lock the bikes together you'll be allright, it's very strong)
- the same compensation of €50 applies to losing the keys of the bikes or the keys of the house
When you book this room you must also comply with the rules of conduct of the appartment building my house is in. A copy of the rules can be found in your room. An excerpt of the main points are:
1. Use of common areas
1.1 The owners are expected to take measures to prevent residual dirt and debris in order to keep the public areas clean and tidy.
1.2 It is forbidden to keep garbage bags it in the common areas or in the galleries.
1.3 Garbage must be disposed of according to regulations set by the municipality and / or the Roteb (garbage can be disposed of in the common area behind the elevator to the right)
2. Preventing/repairing damage.
2.1 All residents are expected to take measures to prevent damage and to the common areas.
2.2 When a resident damages the common area, from any cause whatsoever, the consequences should immediately be undone and restored, if necessary, at the residents expense.
3. Avert imminent danger.
3.1 All residents are obliged to take measures designed to avert imminent danger in all common areas. The resident should inform the board as soon as possible about the existing danger and all measures taken.
4. Smoking ban.
4.1 It is not allowed to smoke in all indoor parts of the common areas.
5. Use of the garden/courtyard/common areas.
5.1 It is not allowed to barbecue in the courtyard or to place garden furniture without written permission of the board.
5.2 It is not permitted to park (motor)bikes and scooters in public areas.
5.3 The garden, courtyard, terrace and balcony may be used only for "garden” purposes. So it is not allowed to store goods and/or cars, caravans, motorbikes and the like there or to carry out repairs on them.
6.1 The residents should not keep the doors to the common areas open longer than necessary. They must also alert third parties, including visitors, suppliers and workmen to this.
6.2 In terms of security all residents the owners are bound by the following:
- They don’t give strangers access to the building;
- They prevent strangers to walk in with them when entering the building;
- They immediately alert the police when they observe strangers gain access to the building illegaly.
7. Music and sound.
7.1 The use of musical instruments or sound systems should not cause any nuisance to other owners and users.
7.2 All residents must make sure that their conduct and that of their families and pets causes no nuisance or danger to the other residents.
7.3 It is not allowed to produce sound which can be a nuisance to other tenants on working days between 22.00 and 08.00 hours. On Sundays and holidays this applies to 10:00.
