Yue is a very nice and polite host and very responsive. Communication in english worked super. The apartment is good and as shown in the pictures. Good to be aware of small narrow stairs if a lot of luggage etc. These kind of old Shanghai lane houses are not well insulated and hence noise from street or neighbors could be an issue. The balcony was spacious and great for relaxing. The only main issue for our stay was the shower (as pointed out by previous review), which was extremely difficult go get a good temperature. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay.

I have stayed in 7 different places in Shanghai over the last 18 months and I oils say this is the highest priced place I have stayed and the least favorite. The location is nice to great shopping and a few restaurants. I will give the good, bad of this apartment. The longest review I have written on Air B and B in over 20 stays. The Good- the location is great for shopping for in small shops for women's clothes. The washer/dryer work great and the place is right off a good street. The front patio is nice to sit and shaded in the early morning on a Sunday. Also a nice refridge/freezer. The lighting is great and nice size apartment- 2-3 people comfortable. The air conditioning works awesome. The bed is comfortable but if over 180cm in height bed will be to small if more than one person. The Bad- the location is Noisy (Day/Night). Much street noise so cannot use front patio with any quiet. (Sunday morning exception but this is almost all area of Shanghai on Sunday morning, the apartment inside you can hear every street noise and you have children running noise on ceiling all day. At night you can here every car, bus, bicycle that passes and all people's conversation from the bed. I even tried to place pillows, blankets to help with noise against windows, with air condition running. Makes sleeping very difficult. The second big problem was the hot water- every time I took a shower the hot water would quit and the shower would be ice cold. Makes really hard to rinse soap out of hair and other areas. Happened all 5 times I took a shower. Also only had two towels with no extras. Has a tub but floor gets very wet as only drains to floor. The kitchen is basic if you really cook western style. Also very difficult for luggage as lighting on first floor no work and scooters in the way to get to second floor. Also can smell cigarette smoke from time to time from other apartments. Overall I have stayed in about 20 ABB places in the world and this was not even average because of the noise and hot water issues for this price.

Super great location and roomy apartment. Many local small food vendors right around the corner. Very conveniently located. When I had interne problem, Yue responded right away and sent someone over to fix it. The shared entry way is messy and dark, also smelled of mold. But once you're in the apartment, it is another world. The balcony looked good even though it was a bit too cold to use the area for us. I recommend this apartment to anyone who wants an authentic Chinese neighborhood experience if they could look pass the dingy entry way.
