The space

Hotel Brio is located in Playa Gigante on the incomparable "Emerald Coast" of southern Pacific Nicaragua. Our 3-acre hotel grounds are nestled on a private ocean-view ridge with spectacular views of the the Pacific Ocean from our restaurant/bar building, swimming pool with 15-meter lap lane, and sustainably harvested teak decks. At Brio you can easily take advantage of all of the beach amenities and bustle of Playa Gigante village while maintaining your privacy and enjoying the largest swimming pool in Gigante.
Our property is a short 10-minute walk to Playa Gigante, a 15-minute walk to the gorgeous deserted beach of Playa Amarillo, and just a 45-minute walk from the world class barreling surf spot, Playa Colorado. You will have access to our network of private hiking, running, and biking trails covering nearly 90 total acres in Playa Gigante.

Guest access

Guests also have access to common area of huge patio with hammocks to relax and enjoy the breeze and views. Brio has two campfire pits, a sand volleyball court and a beautiful pool with stunning sunset views for you enjoy while you are here. Come and join us at our famous Saturday pool parties!
Our restaurant offers the freshest produce, including herbs and greens grown in our own organic vegetable garden just below the pool.

Interaction with guests

We can arrange airport transfers, Spanish and surfing classes, guided tours of our 30-acre private ecological reserve (Zacatan Ecological Reserve), fishing/surfing/sailing charters, yoga classes, nutrition and fitness coaching, and occasional group lectures by a UC Berkeley-trained PhD on the cultural and natural history of Central America.

The neighbourhood

Playa Gigante and many other beaches in the area are famous for great surf breaks. Playa Gigante itself has smaller waves suitable for beginners and body surfing and swimming. Playa Gigante is surrounded by a nature reserve with many species of unique flora and fauna.

Getting around

5 to 10 minutes walk to Playa Gigante surf beach and shops.
We can assist with motorbike or car rentals. Free parking options on the premises.

My name is Rob. I am the owner and founder of Hotel Brio in Playa Gigante, Nicaragua. I also own the Zacatan Ecological Reserve in Playa Gigante, a 30-acre protected area of tropical dry forest. I am a scientist (PhD, UC Berkeley) and an a dedicated life-long surfer. I have taught environmental science, geography, and geology at UC Berkeley, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin.
At Hotel Brio, we are committed to bringing you a meaningful vacation experience based on wellness, fitness, and environmental sustainability. Our sustainability efforts include a 20,000 gallon rainwater collection system, 5-acre certified tropical hardwood production plot (established in 2004), solar energy production, and substantial carbon sequestration via the protection of a tropical dry forest fragment (Zacatan).
