Description

The space

Direct access to Downtown via Redline subway and commuter rail. Gut-Renovation was completed in February, 2016. Almost everything in the house is new including the appliances. No washer and drier in the house. A laundromat and a supermarket are located nearby.

Guest access

Wifi, Full use of kitchen and bathroom (shared)

Interaction with guests

We are friendly, mature and considerate roommates (mixed gender) : highly professional in our respective fields : health care, medical school, higher education : We are all relatively new to this area and have different hours and schedules, doing our own things, but sometimes we dine out together and enjoy BBQ in the back yard.

The neighbourhood

Peaceful and orderly neighborhood. Near the house are ; an elementary school, a supermarket, a laundromat, many different kinds of restaurants. A large shopping area is also located near the subway station.

A diverse community that includes a large proportion of African-American, Hispanic, and Asian families, along with some young professionals.

Getting around

A Redline subway station (Fields Corner) is about 13 minute walk and about 7 minute on bus. A commuter rail station (Four Corners/Geneva Ave) is about 4 minute walk. Both lines have direct access to downtown Boston. The location is very convenient to commute to MGH, MIT, Harvard etc.

Other things to note

We are seeking a roommate/guest who is quiet, non-smoking and without pets.

Youtube videos are available (posted by 'A Renovated House in Boston, MA' and titled '76 Olney St. A second floor room'. Thanks for heeding the 'house-rules'.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)
Check in time is 3PM - 11PM
Check out by 10AM

Unlike most other Airbnb listings, what we do here is long-term rentals by the year, or by the semester.

We try to keep the atmosphere conducive to studying and resting and a couple of house-rules are in place to this end.

1. Towels and linens (sheets, blankets, and pillows) are NOT provided. The bed is full size.
2. No smoking on the premises.
3. No loud music or TV etc.
4. Only for one person (no couples, no visitors). We seldom have visitors, let alone overnight guests. We know this will be a major turn-off to many people, but we believe we can find a like-minded roommate who can have fun outside the house.
5. If you are not sure about your check-out date, you can reserve the minimum days and extend your stay at a discounted rate.
6. Check-in time has to be coordinated at least 48 hours ahead. On arrival, a short registration process with a picture ID is needed in exchange for keys and wifi access.
7. Inside the apartment, we take off our outside shoes. So if you bring your own flip-flops, slippers or some kind of indoor shoes, that will be useful.

I stayed in this AirBNB home for about 4 months. I am traveling short term for work, and finding this location was much easier than finding an apartment/home for rent short term and last minute in Boston. Rent in Boston can be quite pricy, and I found the rent I paid for this home to be reasonable. The location of the home is about a 17 minute (0.8 mile) walk from the Red Line subway station Fields Corner. It is then a short ride to main attractions, like downtown Boston. The home is about a 3 minute walk from the Commuter Train Rail, which takes passengers further out of the metro city limits, and about a 3 minute walk from city Bus services. I have a car, and I never had any problems finding a parking space on the street in front of the house. Do keep in mind, there is street cleaning every other week. I personally never had any problems with the neighborhood this home is located in. The home is just across the street from a school and playground, and is a 5 minute walk from a Walgreens, laundromat, and small grocery store (note, the grocery store is good for dry foods, but I would not buy meat or perishable foods here. It did not seem well taken care of). Although I felt safe in this home the entirety of my stay, I feel it important to be noted that the home is located in an area of Boston City limits that has a higher crime rate. I would not advise walking alone at night in this area, and keep all belongings in a vehicle out of sight and locked away. The home is three levels, the top level housing the owner, Huggy, and the bottom two levels for residents. I lived on the second level of the home, which housed five bedrooms, a shared kitchen and dining space, and a bathroom. When I moved into the home, I was more than welcomed by the current residents. Over the course of my stay, I made life long friendships with the house mates. We often had dinner that we prepare together, or would share laughs and drinks in the common space. We had different schedules, and there was often quiet time and opportunity for alone time in the home. For shared needs, like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc, the roommates and I took turns purchasing and doing routine cleans of the shared spaces. We all washed and cleaned our own spaces as well. The home was incredibly well taken care of and clean. Huggy, the owner of the home, was quick to reply to any messages and available to stop by or correct anything to make the living experience better. I appreciate the apparent hard work and pride that Huggy takes in making his properties enjoyable and comfortable for all. If I had to rate this home on a 10 point scale, I would rate my experience there...

Huggy is a fantastic host and the house is really nice. If you have questions, Huggy will always help you. The best thing however were my housemates that I met during my stay. Everyone was friendly and we all tried to keep our shared spaces nice and clean. Also I really liked to use the Commuter Rail to go either to South Station or the Southbay Center.

Huggy (the host) was fantastic, and extremely helpful. All I needed was a desk and a place to rest my head, and this did the job.

Very convenient location! ~3 Bus stops less than 5 min walking distance from the place. Was able to commute anywhere with those. From what I've seen, the area is pretty safe. Located beside a primary school. I had classes late at night in Cambridge and got back to the place around 11~12midnight most of the time. I had no problems with the area. Room was very clean and housemates were very friendly. House is complete with kitchen, stove, refrigerator, microwave for use.
