About this listing

Spectacularly situated in the beautiful Buttermere valley, Wood House Cottage offers sole use of the cottage for your group. A cooked breakfast is included in the tariff. The lake is a one minute walk away, where there is a delightful pebble beach and a breathtaking view.

Next door to the cottage we have a guest house with three en suite bedrooms (a double and two twin rooms). Please see the three separate listings on Airbnb for these rooms.

The space

The cottage is set within the grounds of Wood House, a fine National Trust Lakeland home. Wood House lies between Buttermere and Crummock Water lakes and has its own private access path to Crummock Water. Buttermere village is a ten minute walk, where there are two pubs, a café and an ice cream shop.

There is a range of wonderful activities on the doorstep: sensational mountain walks, canoeing on the lake, mountain biking and a via ferrata. Wood House also provides an adventure activity guiding service.

We are also able to provide evening meals and packed lunches.

There is always someone present at Wood House to look after guests.

Wood House is in a stunning location in an absolutely beautiful part of the world. We were so thankful to have been able to stay there. Tony is a generous and interested host who could not have been more helpful, and provided a superb breakfast each day together with great options for short trips and meals. One note, it is worth checking with him directions before arrival - even with the postcode entered into our Satnav we arrived at the wrong location, and with phone coverage lacking needed directions from the nearby pub.

Set in the most incredibly beautiful location this spot really is a find! We had a romantic weekend away for a birthday surprise and found some of the most untouched and beautiful parks of the Lakes. The accommodation was spot on and the breakfasts were delicious. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cosy retreat. Will definitely go back.

We stayed in Wood House cottage over the weekend and I can honestly say it is one of the most beautiful locations I have been to in the England. The cottage is nestled in woodland and is a 1 minute walk down to the lake. It is next to the main house and has beautiful views out onto the surrounding mountains. Tony was very helpful and suggested different walks for us to do during our stay and provided an essential map of the local area. We ate at the Bridge Inn each evening, which is a 10 minute walk away. The food and atmosphere where great. Another pub called the fish inn was also just down the road and we probably would have ventured here if we had stayed longer. Tony cooked us a fantastic breakfast each morning and we paid extra for pack lunches to take out on our walks (the local shops are in cockermouth so a drive away). Overall a really fantastic weekend in a beautiful location. Tony was a great host and we would definitely go back.

A perfect getaway cottage. Beautiful setting with a short walk down to the lake and lots of lovely trees, plants and birds to enjoy. Equally easy walk into Buttermere with a great pub and restaurant. Tony was very helpful suggesting great walking options. the accommodation was really cosy and comfortable, well equipped for self catering, great open fire laid ready. The breakfast was wonderful - including vegan and veggie options - and served to us beautifully exactly when we wanted it! Overall a fantastic place to enjoy being with friends, relaxing and soaking up the incredible scenery.

Tony is an outstanding host. He went out of his way to make sure our 11 month old daughter had a proper cot and that my wife and I had everything we needed. He is an expert on the surrounding area and provided us with superb recommendations. We are already looking forward to our next stay at Woodhouse Cottage!
