About this listing

These stone cottages are a family holiday home and have hosted a music festival and various courses. The position, looking over the tidal back-strand and Dingle Bay to the long Dingle Peninsula, is perfect; the sand beach is just down the road.

The space

The Double Lodge:
The cottages have been used by the same family for over 50years as a holiday home and as a result the place has a very unique and special feel.
Visitors should note, that this is not a modern house, while it has the charm of an old Victorian dwelling, there is no central heating. Westerly Atlantic conditions mean that you do need the open fires often even in Summer months. There are also storage heaters downstairs.

Guest access

Guests can book the Double Lodge - 2 cottages joined together (sleeps 10) or the West Lodge (end cottage sleeps 5) - or both together.

Interaction with guests

Any problems please contact Philippa Robinson or Josephine Teahan

The neighbourhood

A 3 mile long strand within walking distance. The Kerry Way is aprox 3km away. The views from the house are outstanding... it's a peaceful haven.

Getting around

Ring of Kerry bus goes from Glenbeigh

Other things to note

If you're looking for a pristine house this is not the place for you, but what the cottages lack in mod-cons they more than make up for in rustic charm. The house has storage heaters and stoves/open fires on the ground floor. Both kitchens are well equipped, and have new fridges (and one a new cooker). The Lodges are divided into two dwellings or may be occupied as one. The whole property has just been restored using reclaimed slates and non-toxic paints and oils.
The bedrooms don't have any heating and can be chilly - so bring bed socks! One of the bedrooms has been slightly damp - this one is equipped with a plug in radiator. We are keeping an eye on it this summer before embarking on any structural work- so feedback on this would be much appreciated.

This place is in a beautiful location but it is not ready for guests. There was a partially eaten bread roll on the kitchen bench and mouse droppings. There was very little heating provided as described but what was provided looked old and unsafe. One bedroom looked relatively welcoming but various duvets looked mouldy throughout the Double Lodge. I specially requested that sheets and towels be provided but what was provided was not acceptable for my group. This place has lots of character and would probably be ok for the right kind of guest, just not us.

Response from Philippa:
Hi Sonja, I'm very sorry for any inconvenience. It sounds like something has gone wrong with our cleaning ststem. It's the first time anything like this has happened. The house is basic in many ways - hence our very competitive rate- , I do my best to make this clear to prosoective guests, and manage expectations. There is no excuse for a mouldy duvet- it is the start of the sea in so I will review our cleaning provision straight away. Philippa

We rang in the New Year at the Retreat Lodges in Rossbeigh, and loved every minute. The house is perfect for a large group with plenty of beds and facilities. The view in the morning is amazing with a quick walk to the beach for a refreshing swim. Glenbeigh is a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi ride and was very lively. A great way to ring in the New Year.

The retreat lodges at Rosbeigh were a really lovely experience. The cottages have open fireplaces and big windows with incredible views of the ocean. There was just five of us staying and we had a huge amount of space. The cottages are really well equipped with great kitchen spaces and linen and towels provided. Check out and check in was very easy going, and all communication with Philippa was perfect - she made she sure we had everything we needed. The cottages are right on the beach and it is a great base to explore the beautiful Ring of Kerry. I can highly recommend staying here.

Retreat Lodges at Rossbeigh are in a great location. The scenery is amazing and house is located close to the beach. Philippa described the House as basic and it is definitely from a different era but it has great character, lots of interesting books, furniture, furnishings etc and with the fire lit we snuggled down for our stay. It could do with a bit of modernisation but would say this is a work in progress. stamodernisation and Shock
