2nd floor bedroom with queen bed and a shared bath (share with the two female hosts). It has 3 large windows with plantation shutters. We are 1/2 block from the metro, 3 metro stops to the Capitol, Mall and Smithsonian. Enjoy free parking, wifi and access to our entire home.

The space

This second floor bedroom offers a queen bed and a shared bath with the hosts. Our house is a charming Capitol Hill row house that is peppered with decor, artwork and rugs from around the world.

Our house is 1/2 block from Stadium-Armory metro station (the subway), a major bus stop, as well as a Capital Bikeshare bike dock where you can rent bikes by the hour or day(s). We offer free parking in front of the house, which is a rarity in this city.

You are welcome to make your own meals in our kitchen. We offer a variety of coffees, teas, fruit, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, toast & jellies for breakfast.

Towels, linens, shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair dryer, iron and ironing board all provided. If you forgot a toothbrush, razor, or other basic toiletries, we're happy to provide.

If you need more room for two additional guests, you can simultaneously book our 250 sq. foot basement bedroom (comes with a private bath) for a 10% discount on the room rate if it's available: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11125206. If you need room for one additional guest, we can provide a twin airbed mattress ($25 additional charge per night for individuals 18yrs. and older/ $15 per night for 17yrs. and younger). Please note, this is not a large room so others have successfully used an air mattress, it is a tight fit.

There are times when we may have other Airbnb guests staying in our basement bedroom (listed in the preceding paragraph). If you have major concerns about this, please let me know when you book.

Guest access

You have complete access to our full house except for the other bedrooms. Feel free to use our living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room (including detergent, etc.). Our back yard is equipped with a table with an umbrella for enjoying meals outside or relaxing and reading; it is also a nice space for yoga surrounded by our tranquil garden. Also feel free to BBQ on our grill. Enjoy mornings sitting in our rocking chairs on the front porch.

Our living room has a 55” TV with surround sound, premium cable channels, plus streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, a DVD player with assorted DVDs, and Wii that you're welcome to use. You can also use our refrigerator, dishes, and appliances. We encourage you to play around with our Amazon Echo (play music, weather, news, and much more). We have wifi and a very robust and secure broadband connection.

If we do not have guests in our basement bedroom, you will have full access to our old-school but functional recumbent bike, so you can watch Apple TV (includes 30+ channels) while you exercise . Feel free to use our yoga mats, medicine ball, small weights and other equipment (all are in excellent condition because goodness knows we rarely use them).

You may use our multi-function scanner/copier/printer for small quantity jobs.

You'll have your own key and a code to our security alarm.

Interaction with guests

We'll treat you like we treat our family: we love having guests and would love to know about you, but we respect your privacy if you'd rather keep the interactions minimal.

We travel a lot, often relying on the kindness of strangers whose directions and insights have had a tremendously positive impact on our adventures, so we would love to pay it back. We're happy to offer recommendations or insights that may be helpful before and/or during your stay in this amazing city. We'll be your "phone a friend" while you are out and about if you need information or guidance. We also have many DC tour books and maps that you're welcome to borrow.

About us: We married in 2014 and one of us hails from the deep South (works in the education sector) and the other is from the Midwest (works in foreign affairs). So you'll benefit from Southern hospitality (minus grits for breakfast), with a side of friendliness and dependability. We hope to be a great fit for any visitor.

We have two cats who will likely observe you from afar, although sometimes they have become friendly towards those who put off that Jedi cat whisperer vibe.

Jennifer was a perfect host! I originally booked the basement room, but there was some emergency construction which left the room unavailable. Jenn was quick to contact me and offer her upstairs room, which we gladly took because...cats. Her kitties were adorable and welcoming, as well as the entire home! Jenn helped us from the beginning in making sure we had a smooth transition settling in. She was always able to provide transit info that helped us with timing so we could get to our meetings on time. There was even some unexpected snow and ice and she graciously lent me a coat and gloves to use. Also, loved the bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival and the disposable cups we could use to have coffee on the go! Seriously, one of our best Airbnb experiences so far!

VERY comfortable accommodations on this charming second floor bedroom! Not only was the bed comfortable, but so was the air mattress that Jennifer went out of her way to provide so that my 2nd daughter could stay with us too. We were welcome to use the whole house including a kitchen complete with Kurig coffee maker and cold filtered water. We didn't cook any meals because we were out most of the time, but I definitely plan on it next time I stay there. There's a lovely garden out back where I sat and had my morning coffee. The very best part though was Jennifer. She was the most incredible hostess/concierge/baker. Yes, baker! She made my daughter a birthday cake on Friday for her birthday, HOW THOUGHTFUL! The metro station is about half a block away. We got home on the metro after 11pm on Saturday night and we felt totally safe walking from the station to the house. We also walked to the Pretzel Bakery Jenn told us about. Great bakery, great neighborhood to walk around.

Both the host and the place have received a lot of positive reviews. All I can say is that I agree with every single word that already has been written. My girlfriend and I stayed at Jennifers&Debbies home for four nights and it was our BEST Airbnb experience ever. Jenn takes care of every single detail to make your stay in her house and city perfect. At the same time she's a really funny and cool person that you feel like chatting with a lot.The room is big and comfortable, house clean and beautifully decorated, all available maps, leaflets and recommendations helpful, neighbourhood pretty and safe, wine and snacks supertasty. It just couldn't be better :)

Jennifer greeted us at the door with a big smile. It felt like visiting family. She showed us to an amazing room in which she had placed a box of local information, waters, cracker jacks a bottle of wine, and hotel soaps. There was a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies too. The room was large, clean, and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful. It felt like being in a high-class hotel to use the shower. We felt comfortable/welcome to use the livingroom and kitchen. The artwork was fun. Jennifer provided fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and coffee. Jennifer went above and beyond by offering us help with ideas of places to go and info on transportation. She also shared board games to us. We love cats. The cats were very nice but pretty much kept their diatance. There was no cat hair anywhere. None!

Charming is the perfect word to describe both the home and the host. The room was exactly as pictured and we even received a welcome basket upon arrival! Jenn was extremely friendly and helpful. She has created digital maps and documents that recommend places to go in the neighborhood and the best routes to take. The home was very beautiful and clean and we felt right at home. We want to go back as soon as possible! Stay here if you can!

Sarah, I'm so glad you had such a positive experience. It was equally as enjoyable for me as you two were perfect guests! We'd love to have you back!

We had a fabulous stay here. Jennifer made us feel like we were staying at a friends house for the weekend. Very nice and very clean living and sleeping arrangements. The shared bathroom was a non-issue. We really enjoyed the effort they took to share their city with us; providing many suggestions for things to do during our stay from a resident POV. Very helpful in avoiding some touristy things. Metro stop is 2 minutes away. Super convenient for access to the National Mall, Zoo/Cathedral, etc. We would certainly stay here again. We recommend you do as well.

WOW! If I could give more stars I would. From start to finish, staying with Jenn was a stellar experience. She was great at communication from the moment I contacted her inquiring about reserving the room, and it just got better from there. She picked my husband and I up from Union Station, gave us a brief driving tour of the sights, and showed us to our room where we were promptly greeted by Sebastian (one of their two adorable kitties) and made to feel right at home. The room was comfortable and even better than in the photos, and Jenn left us some fabulous personalized welcoming touches (that I won't spoil by talking about here, you'll just have to book with her to find out!) that made us feel really special. Jenn and Debbie's house is really clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated, and Jenn made sure we felt at ease with everything from use of the kitchen to the house alarm and even printed out maps and explanations for getting around. We were out adventuring most of the time, but when we were at the house Jenn was always happy to chat when we were in the talking mood. She is a very kind and intelligent person with many interesting stories, and staying at her house really did feel like staying with a friend. Seriously, look no further than Jenn and Debbie's place. You will enjoy every minute of your stay. Just cross your fingers that they will have an opening, because they are most assuredly going to get SuperHost status soon and I can't imagine their place being the most wildly popular Airbnb in the whole area within a month or two.

We are professionals in our mid 40's. I’ve been working in the education sector for 20+ years focusing in special education and educational technology. She is in foreign affairs, has lived in a handful of countries, and speaks Portuguese and Spanish. One of us is from the deep South and the other from the Midwest, so rest assured we’ve got this hospitality thing mastered!

In our spare time we love to travel - the more off the beaten path, the better. We enjoy the outdoors, listening to live music, foreign and independent films, reading , hosting dinner parties, gardening (her) and cooking (me). Also we're unabashedly addicted to the National Zoo's panda cam because we love the new panda cub, Bei Bei.

We love meeting new people and are excited to play the role of host and make your stay in DC inviting, comfortable, and unforgettable.
