The house is a big family seaside house in the Dinard area.
The house was built in the early 20th century, but we had it renovated very recently, so it is as good as new, even though we kept the old style of the house, which we liked.
There is a very big living-room and dining room with a sea view and a balcony on the first floor, along with a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom (shower).
The view is beautiful : you only have to get a look outside the window to know if the tide is high or low, or if there is wind and waves or not. Every evening, you can see the sun setting on the sea.
The kitchen is fully equipped (dishwasher, oven, coffee machine, toaster, etc.) and we have a TV in the living-room. There is no access to internet yet, though.
On the second-floor are the bedrooms : three rooms with double-beds and a smaller room with a single bed. The mattresses are new and the rooms are nice and comfortable, with tiny windows but nice views on the sea or the gardens of the houses around.
The radiators in the house are all new and the house can be warm very quickly in the winter.
The ground floor is independent : there is a second kitchen, a second toilet and a second bathroom there (which are new as well), and this is where we keep the washing machine and the barbecue. There is also a fifth room there, with a double bed and a single bed, which you can use as well if you want, in which case the house sleeps 10 people.
We have a big garden, but with little grass or flowers at the moment (they were destroyed when the house was renovated). We have very nice garden furniture, though, and you can still have lunch and enjoy the sun in the garden.
Lancieux is a very nice little town, with three beautiful beaches. One of them, the biggest one, is a famous spot for windsurfing and kite surfing. There is also a "Mickey club" there where children can go and play on the beach with other children in the day. The other beaches are more quiet. One of them is famous for crab or clam fishing at low tide.
Lancieux is not a big town like Dinard. There is a small center with a bakery, a small supermarket, a butcher, a fishmonger, a newsagent, and a few restaurants and cafés, but there are no shops. There are two bars with nice concerts in the summer, though, which makes the town much livelier, and if you are a smoker, you can buy cigarettes very easily. There is also a very street market every Tuesday where you can buy food, books, jewels and clothes.
If you want to go to a bigger town, Lancieux is very close to Saint-Briac, Saint-Lunaire, Dinard and - bigger still - Saint-Malo, where you will find everything you need and all the excitement of the city.
You can drive there, ride there, or take the bus, which will take you there in no time at all.
There are lots of lovely places in and around Lancieux where you can go for a long walk or have a picnic : around the St-Briac golf range ( fantastic views on the sea), along the coast to "Les Briantais" (a lovely walk along little coves with a lovely view on the coastline), in the protected area of Le Frémur (a brackish area with funny vegetation) or around the Cap Fréhel.
In the house, you will find a lot of information about the area and the nice places to see there (guides, leaflets, etc.) and, if you want me to, I'm here to help and let you know where to go (walks, restaurants) and how.
My name is François, I am 62 and I am an English teacher in Paris. The house in Brittany is an old old family house and my children and I love it very much. We don't live there, though (we all live in the Paris area and only go there during the school holidays) and we want to rent it anytime during the year. We are here if you have any questions about the house or the area and, if you want to rent the house, we will do everything in our power to make your stay as nice as can be.
