Come relax and unwind. We have a rare cool two-story freestanding village house. It sleeps 4-5 guests with 2 private gardens to enjoy the lush green surroundings. This Getaway is perfect for couples, families, business travelers, and solo adventurers looking for a unique getaway experience

The space

We welcome you to our 2 story stand alone private house. Every window looks out into lush green vegetation. There is a bathroom on each floor. A fully outfitted custom kitchen and full size fridge, great for preparing meals . We have Vitamix for smoothies. We have a small BBQ on site that you can set up. The upstairs lounge is a great place to catch up on reading or take a well deserved nap. The bedrooms are comfy with lovely green views. We also stock several board games for fun time indoors.

Guest access

As our guest you will have full access to all areas of the house which also includes a small office space (not pictured) if you need to work on your novel or just send some emails. There is also great storage for keeping organized.

Interaction with guests

We have a great team to take care of you from the minute you inquire about a reservation. Our house manager Nemie will be your face to face contact for your visit. She will personally walk you to the house and get you settled in and answer any questions you may have. We are often in a different time zone but will always be on hand for communication before, during, and after your visit. We are happy to help in any way. This is a great booking for guests who like to do their own thing. We are not on site 24/7.

Other things to note

-this is a local Chinese house with low ceilings so the ceiling heights could be a problem for a guest who is extremely tall.
-we start you off with some great coffee and tea and some milk but beyond that all groceries need to be supplied by you. ( there is a new Starbucks 5 min away)
-you can by charcoal for BBQ in Mui Wo town center.
-we supply some beach towels for your use. You can purchase further beach/outdoor supplies like sunscreen, mosquito spray, straw mats, hats and sunglasses in Mui Wo and near most beaches. We do not provide these items.
-If you have an aversion to walking moderate distances or riding a bike or health reasons why this could be challenging then pls ask more questions to make sure this is the right booking for you. We want each guest to be comfortable with the great experience we have to offer.
-this is 100% nature here! full of all the creatures that come with that like butterflies, insects, birds ect....the occasional snake.
-pls be respectful of our local Chinese neighbors to the right and left. Best to greet quietly and keep to yourself.
-pls keep our place tidy. Take out trash frequently and try to leave the way you found it.
-it is difficult to accommodate check ins after 7pm we discourage it.
-bikes are on the property and free to use during your stay. If something breaks on the bike we appreciate you letting us know and swinging by the many bike shops in Mui Wo and have it fixed for the next guests.

We had a wonderful time in Hong Kong. Mui Wo was a delightful little town, a short 30 minute ferry from Central, but with calm, quiet safe streets. Liv contacted us before confirming our booking to ensure we understood that the house required a little walk from the ferry. This was very considerate of her and the walk was more than manageable. When we arrived we had use of the whole house, including bikes for zipping down the hill. The kids loved the freedom, safety and homeliness of Liv's house. Her communications were prompt and helpful and the house was fantastically equipped. Of the 10 or so airbnb properties we have stayed in during our travels over the past 2 months, this was our favourite. Thanks Liv

We had a great time at Liv's place in Mui Wo, a perfect home from home. We will definitely look to stay again if we want to be based there. Thanks for everything Liv and Nemie!

This country house is a fine example of traditional village dwelling. It is immaculate and well equipped for smaller families. We made use of the BBQ in the back garden and having a washing machine was a plus. Be prepared to walk quite a way to reach to Mui Wo centre. The host was great with pre arrival comms. Bring insert repellent, beach stuff and hiking gear. This is a unique experience for Hong Kong.

Loved the rural village feel. We were 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) and didn't feel cramped. Having upstairs and downstairs plus the garden was great. House was comfy, clean, well appointed. Would love to go back again and hope to do so. Excellent, fast communication with Olivia and friendly help and welcome from Nemie who helped us to settle in. Arigato!

Had a lovely relaxing 3 night stay here. After a week in Kowloon for Chinese New Year it was a bit of a culture shock coming to peaceful Mai Wo, off the beaten track, and experiencing more rural HK living. The house is traditional with low ceilings (at 5'10 I just managed to fit under the doorways) and was a perfectly adequate space for two tallish sized British visitors. Liv has furnished the house beautifully with high quality textiles, the kitchen and dining utensils were brilliant and had everything I needed to prepare cooked meals. The hot water was HOT and plenty enough for showers! Internet and wifi worked a treat. The bed was very comfortable and we also spent a lot of time chilling out on the comfy sofa bed upstairs dipping into some of the interesting books on the shelves. We travelled reasonably light and the trek up to the house was perfectly doable. We are quite fit 50 something's and it was definitely a good 20min walk with the luggage up a gradual incline. Easy communication between Liv and the housekeeper Nemie meant check in was smooth and went to plan. Neither of us wanted to leave at the end of our 3 nights - we would have been happy staying there for the rest of our time in HK - next time we will stay longer! If you are looking for a get away retreat this is the place...I could come here to write a book! Easy access to the bus station/ferry terminal- we visited Big Buddha by bus - it is worth going early - we aimed for the 11.30 bus which coincided with the arrival of a ferry and couldn't get on that bus! Lovely hiking trails to explore. This was our first experience of Airbnb in Asia (used a lot in NZ and Europe) and we were very happy with our choice! Thank you

This was a lovely typical village house in one of the old villages on Mui Wo. We had a lovely stay. It was very quiet and relaxing and a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle on Hong Kong island. Though please note that as it is a village house it has a low ceiling. The place had everything we needed and Mui Wo was a great base, with easy access to hiking trails, and buses to other parts of Lantau and regular ferries are about 20 minutes walk away . There are plenty of restaurants, a cooked food market, and supermarkets by the ferry pier and bus station.

Olivia's lovely-decorated and very well situated house was the perfect place for a week-end getaway from Hong Kong. We enjoyed the peace and quiet as we sat outside in the garden for lunch and dinner, yet still with life going on around. The house itself is charming and has everything you need (including bikes for an easy cycle into town). Olivia was very accommodating and flexible in terms of arrival/departure times and keen to make sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely come back for another weekend getaway on a regular basis!
