This property boasts the best the region has to offer; proximity to Lakes Bled and Bohinj, to the Triglav national park, whilst being off the beaten track enough to provide the sanctuary and solitude of the forest, in a cozy, beautiful setting.

In 2017 I have added a wood-fired Sauna (10 eur/ guest for unlimited usage) this is a communal facility to be shared on a reservation basis between three cabins.

The space

Looking for adventure, proximity to nature, a break from it all, peace, beauty and comfort? You found the right listing :-)

In the alpine foothills above Lake bled, the valley of Talez, you'll find your little piece of paradise. An authentic 19th century mountain shepherd's cabin, I've given this place a new lease of life as an ecological mountain retreat. All electricity is supplied by solar powers - there's lots of sun in this wide valley! The Cabin also has its own source of natural spring water.

Whilst offering the chance to get back to nature, you'll still be close enough to the main sights to make easy day trips (10-15 minutes from Bled, 25 minutes to Bohinj and the heart of the Triglav National Park, 40 minutes from Ljubljana, an hour from Postojna...). It's ideal for people exploring Slovenia by car - the best way to do it. If you don't have a car and don't intend to rent one, I'm happy to help you out with transport if possible - contact me and we'll organise something.

Something to note: the road up to the house may take some getting used to if you're not used to the mountains. One or two trips and you'll have the hang of it. Don't be scared; it's what they call a MacAdam road, used in areas that don't get much traffic, so as to create a minimal impact on the environment. On your first trip up, someone will be on hand to show you the path. It should be noted that travel time will likewise depend on your comfort driving on the back roads. It's worth it though, and if you ask me, driving through the forest adds to the adventure!

Guest access

Guests will have access to the entire house, all its facilities for cooking, hanging out by the open fire, as well as the 3 acres of land upon which it sits, which is ideal for camping, barbecues, picnics... Just five minutes walk away, you have the Talez mountain hut, serving great local food and drinks with a stunning view of Lake Bled and the alps all around.

I am currently working on extra amenities, including a Sauna (ready Spring 2017), an outdoor hot tub (planned for Summer 2017), a large outdoor cooking and dining area (planned for Summer 2017) - And this just for starters. These are planned as shared amenities, to be shared between three neighbouring cabins. There is a small supplement for firewood and maintenance of the Sauna (10 euro per guest for the duration of the stay for unlimited usage).

Interaction with guests

I'll be at hand to help you get settled in and answer any questions. Eco living might seem complex, but everything is set up to make it easy for you. I'm going to be staying in a neighbouring cabin, so you can call on me at any time.

You're in the mountains now! Rustic living like this demands a certain degree of independence, so I'd ask that you follow the mountain code : try to leave things as you found them. Otherwise, you'll have everything that you need. This is the perfect place for parties, a great place to have a good time and you're welcome to do so - just stay respectful of the house and furnishings as if it were your own - and enjoy!

No fires on open ground during summer months please - use only the indoor fireplace and designated outdoor fire pits.

I live in London and to live somewhere that is so completely different was an amazing feeling. I would definitely visit again.

Rónán's cabin is wonderful and was the accommodation highlight of our travels through Austria and Slovenia this summer as a party of 2 adults and 4 teenagers. The location is stunning, yet you are only a half hour's drive from Lake Bled. The cabin is cosy, the young ones really enjoyed chopping wood and making campfires. Late nights round the fire under the intense, starry night sky (with zero light pollution) will stay in our memories. And Rónán was a great host. This is a true off-grid experience with no wifi, constraints on electricity supply and fairly basic amenities (including needing to light a fire to get hot water!) So don't come with city slicker expectations of luxury and armfuls of energy hungry appliances! Chill out, get back to nature and you will have an unforgettable experience.

This accommodation is simply stunning, a rustic mountain eco cabin designed for those who wish to escape reality whilst being near enough to modern day amenities! The greatest photographer in there world couldn't capture the amazing beauty this place has to offer, highly recommend!

Enjoyed the forest location. Cabin was exactly what we expected from the information and photos. Adapted to the low water levels and then we experienced a fierce thunderstorm with plenty of water...ha ha! If you stay here you'll enjoy a unique experience.

We loved our stay at the cabin. We were six adults and the cabin was cosy / comfy for that many, although we did spend the majority of our time outside. The trek to the lake took an hour but it was a beautiful location, beautiful cabin and Ronan was a great host

We had a lovely time in this cabin, beautiful location in the woods away from it all with hammocks outside and plenty of outdoor cooking equipment and a fire pit. Kitchen inside is well equipt too. there's a nice little cafe/bar just a short walk or 5 minute drive away with the best view over lake bled and the mountains. It's about half an hour up a mountain road from bled itself so a bit out of the way from the centre but that's what the place is all about. We were a bit dissaponted by the cleanliness, it could really do with a seriously good dust upstairs and the bed sheets were not very clean at all, but Ronan told us where to find some cleaner sheets and it probably wouldn't stop us staying there again.

We had a great time at Ronan's place, it was in a secluded, idyllic location and the perfect place to get away from it all. The wood fire was amazing and created a very cosy atmosphere. We enjoyed very relaxing evenings here with a glass of wine in hand! Ronan was a very helpful host and gave us plenty of tips and local knowledge, he was very happy to advise and we really appreciated him going the extra mile. We hope to come back next year!
