Villa Solvorn is a hidden gem. It is a beautifully stylish and comfortable accommodation with everything you could possibly need. The host Oskar had great local knowledge of what hikes to go on and was very helpful with all our requests. The breakfast pancakes made with a family recipe are the best we have tasted. It was our favourite place to stay over our 10 day road trip in Norway.

Villa Solvorn is a bed and breakfast, with several bedrooms that are given out to different parties. We took the family room and double room during our stay (we were 5 adults and 2 small kids). Common areas include a living room, dining area and kitchen (where guests can cook their own meals). Oscar provides (basic, continental) breakfast, with eggs, toast, cereals, coffee. It is a charming house and Oscar is very helpful with finding local things to see and do. Also rents bikes and single person kayaks. Solvorn is a quiet little settlement right on the fjord. We had a good time here.

What a fantastic stay we had in beautiful Solvorn! We cannot say enough about Alvilde and her wonderful family who made us feel so welcome in their exquisite home. Their place was a perfect place of modern conveniences, artistically furnished and drenched with sunlight. It all makes sense when you meet the family; Oskar is a professional photographer, his wife Eva is a graphic designer and their daughter Alvilde is very much interested in the arts. We appreciated the mix of contemporary art, ceramics and antiques. This was on top of the extremely comfortable beds and pillows affording us three nights of terrific sleep! We had the good fortune of being Villa Solvorn’s first international guests! My husband and I were travelling with our eight year old daughter and we all felt very much at home. Breakfast was a real treat – served family style in the kitchen. We had the best coffee in all of our travels in Norway at their kitchen table! Oskar and Alvilde are quite a tag team – making breakfast and telling their guests a bit about their culture. They were also truly interested in finding out about ours. A real highlight for my daughter baking a Grandiosa frozen pizza which we heard was a true Norwegian experience! There are many places to sit and relax; the living room with comfy couches (check out Oskar’s published book of photographs), the light filled porch (perfect for an afternoon read) and the garden itself. You can easily choose to mingle with the other guests or to have quiet time on your own. The family were very discrete and actually move out of the house for the summer – available if needed but giving the guests lots of space in the main house. Solvorn itself is a picturesque village, nestled in the fjord. What a treat to walk amongst the houses and making your way to the water. We spent an afternoon at the beach and chatted with the locals on the dock. It was fun checking out the Walaker, a beautiful grand historic hotel on the water. Right next to the house is a grocery store where you can buy just about anything. A real surprise was the Thai restaurant (linked to the grocery store) where the food was fantastic! We loved meeting the friendly owner and his staff and eating our meals on their patio which is clearly the centre of town. The bike rental is conveniently located at a neighbour’s place – we rented bikes and took the quick ferry ride to see the Urnes Stave Church which is well worth the trip. If you have time, try the cheese cake in the café across from the church! The Villa Solvorn far exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect place to slow down, take in a beautiful fjord and meet a very nice Norwegian family!
