Description

The space

This cozy cabin was just built in 2016. Located on a lush organic family farm in a beautiful jungle setting.
The cabin features golden railings from bamboo we harvested on the property. Along with a bed made out upcycled Californian redwood.
We are located about a 15 minute drive from Pahoa town, and about 15 minutes from the ocean and warm thermal ponds. We offer airport pick ups and drop offs for a small fee, and also provide vegetarian meals, yoga and massage therapy sessions upon request. Please arrive before sunset to get oriented and checked in. Check out our other listing "Cozy Private Jungle Cabin with View" for more reviews of our farm. *Please note that our property is located about 1 mile down a dirt road. Most of our guests manage fine driving it with sedan type rental cars, however vehicles with higher clearance are recommended.

Great places to check out nearby us include:
~ Kehena Black Sand Beach for sunbathing, swimming with dolphins & whales, and Sunday drum circle.
~ Kalani Eco-Retreat has Ecstatic dances, yoga and a spa and pool.
~ Ahalanui Warmponds - geothermally heated warm ponds.
~ The famous "Red Road," one of the most beautiful coastal drives!
~ Kalapana "Uncle Robert's" authentic local Hawaiian Style weekly Farmer's Markets on Wednesday Nights, and Saturday Mornings featuring the live local music, delicious foods & crafts, and Uncle's Awa (Kava) Bar, a great way to experience the community.
~ Historic Pahoa Town, for all your essential needs, groceries, health food store, pharmacy, banks and restaurants.
~ Mermaid Ponds, Tide pools, Lava tree State Park, Mauna Kea for sunrise (the tallest mountain in the world when measured from under sea level!), ~Hilo tide pools to swim with the giant sea turtles, and Volcano National Park, etc. are all within a drive..

Guest access

There are solar lights in the cabin, no electrical plugs, however at the Bath House there are plugs to charge up your phones, etc. There are a variety of fruit trees on the property so depending on the season you'll be able to try some fresh tropical goodies as well :) Tucked away from the main road you'll be able to engulf yourself in the sweet sound of nature and enjoy the true meaning of island life.
We can provide drinking water but unfortunately the kitchen is not available for use. You're welcome to bring your own cooler to your cabin porch. Please no food in cabin. We have ice blocks we can provide.

Interaction with guests

We will gladly help to get you acquainted and comfortable but allow guests to mostly navigate independently once they've got their bearings. Interact at your level of comfort and come and go at your leisure, we are easy going. This is an active, small, family-run, organic farm that often have volunteers and we will be busy with projects on the land most days. We are usually around to help answer questions and help guests get orientated but please be mindful of our time as we are working. We also, on occasion, have other family, friends and other guests staying with us too, so sometimes it feels quite festive with all the different walks of life! :)

The neighbourhood

All our surrounding neighbors also garden and farm with self sustainable practices. So come and learn what it is like to live off grid.
We live down a 1-mile dirt road through the Hawaiian jungle canopy. We live on a 20 acre family farm surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine Hawaiian jungle. We sit at the foothill of a volcanic mountain range with 2 huge crater holes a short hike away. Down the road about 5 miles there is ocean swimming access at Isaac Hale Beach park and be sure to have a relaxing soak in the thermal warm pond nearby. The Kapoho Tide pools are great for snorkeling and swimming as well. There are steam-vents you can steam in about 10 miles away. The nearest town to us is 5 miles away and is colorful Pahoa with all your basic food, shopping, post, and bank needs.

Getting around

We recommend a 4WD vehicle for our road and many other places on the island like Waipio Valley and Mauna Kea. However, all cars can make it down our driveway/road but you will have to go slow and enjoy the scenery.
There is a public bus in the town of Pahoa, 4 miles from us which will connect you to Hilo and around the island. Hitchhiking is easy but having your own transportation is advised.

Other things to note

We live about a mile down a dirt road. Most of our guests do just fine driving in with sedan style rental cars, however we still recommend vehicles with higher clearance.
Also we are off grid, which means we use Solar for electricity and rain catchment for our water supply. Please be mindful of this and plan on charging devices during the day along with limiting shower times during times of drought.

We are located 1 mile down a GRAVEL/DIRT road off of Pohoiki Road, so a 4X4 is recommended or having a vehicle a little higher off the ground.
If you need a pick-up from the Hilo airport, we offer a shuttle fee of $25 upon request.

We do farm tours and sometimes nature walks and we can offer various day tours to local sacred sites around the Puna area on a Donation basis. John is a professional vegetarian chef and offers tasty organic meals inspired by the garden and trees. Ariel offers multi-modality therapeutic Healing Treatments. Be sure to ask for more details :D

We have a friendly farm dog and a locked gate at the entrance that opens outwards. Will give gate code on booking.

Also things you might consider packing are a flashlight or a head lamp, and an umbrella and mosquito repellent for the whole island.

Just a reminder The Hawaii Transient Tax of 9.25% and 4% GET taxes are NOT INCLUDED in your Airbnb fee and will be collected upon arrival. Cash or Paypal only please.

Beautiful cabin in the jungle! We had a great long weekend at John and ariel's place. The cabin was in a perfect location as we were all about lava during our stay. The cabin was super comfortable and the outdoor shower and bath house were perfect. Our only challenge is that we like early morning coffee and we didn't have any good options without leaving the farm and driving into town. Get the breakfast! The pancakes and lilikoi jam are memorable.

Our goal is to live, love and inspire a natural lifestyle, care for the Earth and environment, as well as to encourage independent living and thought, Grassroots social cooperation, and meaningful, self-sufficiency oriented lifestyles off the mainstream grid. Our family has been blessed to be on this amazing land for about 3 years now! George, Stephanie, Nicolette, Sophia and John&Ariel live and work on the farm and love to get down in the garden and celebrate the harvest! We have traveled to many countries and enjoy sharing stories from around the globe. Everyone brings their talents to the family table here at I'olani Farm! Ask John, a vegetarian chef, to create a fresh meal for you from our gardens. ;) We spend most of our days at the farm working on our homesteading projects! We are respectful of others and try to create a harmonious environment for all :)Aloha
