Cross the famous Bridge over the Atlantic to the tranquil idyll that is the Isle of Seil. Seil is a perfect base to explore the West Coast of Scotland & Hebrides, with Oban's ferry terminal, restaurants and shops just 30 minutes away. Seil also has its own golf course, & well stocked shop (1 mile from the chalet) & three pubs serving food within a five/ten minute drive.
Enjoy the abundant wildlife on stunning walks or simply sitting at your base & observing the birds & deer in the garden.

The space
Iona Chalet is a detached cabin-style property that has been entirely refurbished to a high specification, & has been immaculately maintained since then. It is luxuriously appointed, & has a spacious, characterful, light and airy open plan living, fully-fitted integrated kitchen, and dining area with french doors leading to an enclosed and covered veranda for spring and summer, and cosy log burning stove for the winter. Every care has been taken to make your stay as comfortable as possible from the luxury shower room with underfloor heating, to cosy bedrooms. It has one double bedroom, & one good sized single/dressing room. There is also ample space for a cot in the single room, which I can provide upon request. It has a good sized lawned garden surrounded by fields & woodland, & is in an idyllic setting overlooking the shores of Balvicar Bay. The shoreline is approximately 100 metres from the chalet, & is easily accessed by way of a wooden gated walkway. All electric consumption is included in the price, & in winter/inclement weather logs & kindling. I also provide a choice of red or white wine, fresh flowers, fresh coffee (roasted & ground on Seil!), Seil eggs & baking.
I’d like to reassure prospective guests that every care will be taken to ensure their safety as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic upon reopening on 15/7/20. I have signed up & agreed to abide with Airbnb’s Enhanced Cleaning Protocol & have accreditation for the same under Visit Britain’s We’re Good to Go campaign, incorporating the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers cleaning protocols in the context of Covid-19.
I believe it’s important for me to undertake the cleaning myself to ensure that it’s carried out in accordance with recommendations, & the above protocol to protect you & your family. I provide all bed linen and towels, all of which are stripped & washed between guests, including duvet, mattress & pillow protectors. The chalet is also left entirely vacant for a minimum of three hours (recommended) with windows open to minimise air-born particles between guests. I wear protective clothing, mask & gloves when cleaning, which are changed prior to bed making & placing clean towels & essentials. I provide approved cleaning & sanitising products should you wish to clean during your stay, but this is your prerogative. I do not expect you to clean, just simply to respect my property & take care of it as your own.
You will find 3 simple departure instructions in the chalet, which helps keep me & my guests safe, & I would kindly expect you to respect this.

Guest access
The whole of Iona Chalet is at our guests disposal, including the lawned wrap around garden & access to the shore.

Other things to note
The wildlife, both on land & at sea is abundant in this area. Wildlife tours can be booked daily with Seafari (April to October inc) just a short drive from Balvicar, and for the adventurous, why not take a trip to the famous Corryvwreckan whirlpool (the third largest in the world) subject to the moon and tides.
The area is fantastic for walking, cycling & kayaking, & is rich in history, with the archeological gem of Kilmartin Glen a short drive away.
The island shop (just one mile from the chalet) is surprisingly well-stocked, & is a friendly hub of information and groceries, which includes local produce and home baking. The owner & staff have been brilliant during the Covid-19 pandemic, & have looked after us all during full lockdown, & no doubt will continue to do so.
Oban is just a 30 minute drive away, where there are larger supermarkets, including large Tesco, Lidl & an M & S Food Hall, & a wide variety of restaurants & cafes for which I’m happy to make recommendations.
If you’d prefer to eat at your base & enjoy seafood, why not get a delicious platter delivered to your door by The Fisherman’s Kitchen (see Tripadviser reviews). They are huge & fabulous!!

Seil is not overly populated with holiday accommodation, & so it is never crowded. Balvicar Chalets is a small community (just seven) of cabin-type properties, some of which are lived in permanently, within gated grounds. They are set in a very quiet & peaceful setting, backing on to farmland and overlooking Balvicar Bay. Iona Chalet is just 100 metres from the shore, which can be accessed by a wooden walkway.

I adore the West Coast of Scotland, & feel very fortunate to be able to call Seil my home, & I want others to come and experience & enjoy its dramatic scenery, great food and friendly people. My other passion is bread making and baking, and my guests will be treated to a selection of goodies on their arrival. I could not live without my husband, dogs, Land Rover or cook books (not necessarily in that order!)

During your stay
The chalet has key safe entry, which is ideal for a social distance check-in, & you will be sent the key safe combination around a week before your stay commences. Whilst I live just 5 minutes away, on Seil, in the current climate I will refrain from meeting any of my guests. I will, of course be on hand via the App at any time should you experience any problems, or have any questions, & of course will attend if necessary.
Please note that I’m not a property management company/business, overseas investor or absent host. Iona Chalet is my only holiday let. I’m passionate about this area & I’m lucky to call Seil my home. I take my host research very seriously, which has involved trying as many restaurants, pubs, cafes, walks & days out etc as possible, so that I can pass that information on to you. My dedication knows no bounds!
