A queen size very comfortable and warm bed. A love seat size couch in the living room converts to a single bed for one extra guest (3 people total). A 47 inch flat screen TV with great DVD's (no cable), and hooked up for streaming with your computer. There is great strong WIFI ! There is a small but full bathroom, a complete kitchen supplied with most all necessities, pots, pans utensils and dishes. Also stocked with organic coffee, tea's, cream & sugar, homemade banana bread, and various snacks and drinks supplied for your enjoyment. There is a very private back yard with an 8 foot fence, BBQ, table and chairs. In front of cottage the driveway runs along a street which is plowed for easy access should snow be expected. Very snow friendly and located within a mile from downtown Idyllwild. Come enjoy the beautiful spring on the mountain!

Guest access

Although the phone reception is spotty all over the mountain, you are sure to get reception in town at our local coffee house. Sometimes you can get it fine at your cottage if sitting out on the deck or backyard. The Cottage does have good WiFi. You will receive the password upon arrival.

Interaction with guests

There is a map to show you the hiking trails that are located out your front door. There is also a map for more substantial trail head hiking, fishing, and camping details, however you will have to stop at the ranger station to get an Adventure Pass for parking at all the other local trail heads.

The neighbourhood

Our location is in Royal Pines. It is a charming eclectic community of tiny houses, mobile units, cottages, and in the summer some 5th wheels that come up on a regular basis to get out of the Palm Springs desert heat. It is a safe, friendly, and unique area and community. One of Idyllwild's best kept secrets !

Getting around

Idyllwild is located an hour from Palm Springs. It is also located just two hours from San Diego and Los Angeles. Our mountain is located 5000' ft. up in elevation. It takes about 25 minutes from the bottom of the mountain to get up to the top. The roads are very safe and not a lot of cliff hanger curves! We are located about 2 miles from Idyllwild Arts Campus and about 1 miles from Town. We have wonderful restaurants and a community full of artist's and musicians ! On every given night during you will find our talented musicians on every stage throughout town! As of the first of February 2017 Idyllwild will be opening an amazing Brewery ! You will really want to be sure to visit it! It took 2 years to build, all top of the line - state of the art equipment - solar powered - hundreds of thousands of dollars - big time, yet small town - unbelievable views located in the middle of the forest !!! Not to mentions the experts doing the brewing and wonderful local long-time chefs! About to become one of California's biggest and best secrets !

Other things to note

We know how difficult it is to travel and leave our beloved dog behind, so we would like you to be able to bring your well behaved four legged family member with you. Please clean up after your dog and must be on a leash at all times. Please no barkers! They will love the backyard. Our beautiful town is VERY DOG FRIENDLY! In fact our Mayor is a huge golden retriever - Mayor Max !

These hosts go above and beyond to make everything as comfortable as possible for their guests. There is even delicious banana bread for your enjoyment! This little mobile home is located steps away from hiking trails, which is a plus. Not the best trails around, but nice if you want to just go out and not have to drive somewhere (note that some are more difficult than they initially look -- we found out the hard way :) ). The bed is very comfortable, there is a full kitchen (note the refrigerator is apt. sized, and no toaster), a large TV and Blu-Rays to play for your evening chill time (you might discover a new favorite film from their collection). A dedicated parking spot right in front. There is a nice little backyard to enjoy with a clean barbecue. We didn't use the front chairs because they are less private. The house is small, as described ("cozy"), though a bit more cramped than I expected in the bedroom and bathroom. Not really an issue, but be aware. It's quite dated, "rustic", again not really a surprise or they'd probably charge more... little things like it not being level and older carpeting you can get used to pretty quickly. Some pet hair on the sofa. There are other homes/RVs flanking the home, and a campground next door which gets noisy on the weekend. I got the impression of a bit more space surrounding the house from the photos. A plus that it's out of the way from town though, in my opinion. We had a nice little visit in Idyllwild and caught up with some rest at their little home. Thanks! P.S. Try FERRO, it's an excellent restaurant.

If you are looking for a warm, friendly, and quiet place, you will be happy with your choice. 5 minutes from "downtown", with trails running up the mountains right across the street, squirrels on watch right around the corner, this little house is very cool! Preston and Cathy make it a point in making you feel like home, and that's how you feel right off the bat. It is chilly in the mornings and nights, as expected in the mountain, but there's a fun little cast iron stove - with wood provided - and an electrical space heater to help you warm-up, or simply get closer to your loved one! ;) We enjoyed the good vibe of the space, the cuteness of the decoration, the fun quotes here and there on the walls, and the little private back patio with propane BBQ. Small kitchen, but gas stove and oven, stuff to cook, and we particularly enjoyed the little counter where you sit on a bar stool to eat while watching a movie on the screen across the salon. Comfortable bed, warm water in the shower, plenty for two "princess" shower takers, :) then a cool couch to relax on after a hike. The fact that it's close to town makes it easy to get groceries or just hangout, but it's far enough to traffic, in a dead-end street, to have a total peaceful experience. If we ever come to Idyllwild again, we will definitely come to this house. Tons of fun to the next visitors!

We had a great time at this adorable little cottage. It's super quiet and right next to hiking trails. It is in a neighborhood, but we didn't hear anything once inside and the little back patio is super peaceful. The bed was really comfy! Would definitely come back.

Plan on eating before 8 or 9 as the local restaurants close somewhat early.

This little house was the perfect place to crash in between day trips to Anza Borrega & Joshua Tree. Although the place is small, it has everything you need for a cozy night's stay.

Preston & Cathy User Profile

Preston and Cathy have lived in Idyllwild for a combined 18 years. We purchased and completely reconstructed this little cottage with the intention of being able to share our love of this mountain experience with you!
Preston has retired up here from the Los Angeles area after a full career as an actor; TV, Film, Commercials and modeling. He has been involved with our community theater groups, and enjoys his mountain living. He will be the first to tell you, "he swears he has never worked so hard as he has since retiring" !
Cathy has spent the last seven years owning a Health Food Cafe' at the local health food market. She now in enjoying this AirBnB venture! She still does small catering jobs around town as well as some personal chef services for special requests.
We wake up everyday with a strong feeling of gratitude for where we live and the lifestyle we have created, and we are very excited to share it with all of you!
