Soaking up the Chengdu lifestyle will be easy with so much happening in the Zongbei neighborhood around our apartment!

The space

This HakkaHomes studio apartment is in an ideal location on Chengdu's south side within walking distance of the American consulate, Sichuan University, Computer City as well as countless restaurants, bars, banks, shops, and convenience stores. Chengdu's north/south line 1 subway is about 12-15 minutes walk from the apartment and many bus routes pass by the building as well.

The studio is fully furnished with a double bed that can sleep 2 plus a big closet, small table, and a comfy bay window, or at least a Chinese style bay window :). There is also a kitchenette with sufficient cooking utensils if you want to do some cooking!

Guest access

The whole apartment is yours!

Interaction with guests

Besides getting the keys for move-in and check-out I suppose interaction would be "only as needed"... unless you come hangout with me and my friends in my bar (Hakka Bar in the same building)... or on the weekends at my club (.TAG) just a few minutes from our building!

Amber is a great host, who communicate really well and offered assistance when I needed. I was invited to the bar that they also run and had the pleasure to meet many interesting people. I would recommend this place and would definitely like to come back to hakkahome again. The room was as described and met all the expectations. Overall I had a great time, thank you.

Flat was exactly as the pictures show. It was great staying here, Amber was really helpful and it was such a relief after some weeks of hard travelling. Highly recommended.

Ellen's place is in the best location in Chengdu, very close to great restaurants and nightlife. Ellen helped make my time in Chengdu very memorable. She's an amazing host, and a dance machine! Would highly recommend staying at her place.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hakka Homes in Chengdu. The location is great--many great restaurants and bars are nearby, and it is a short walk to the nearest subway station. The room is very comfortable and spacious and gets lots of light during the day. However, the room and the furniture looked a bit old--some chips in the walls, minor rust in the bathroom, stains, etc. It didn't really bother us though, and we were very comfortable. Amber was helpful most of the time, and we appreciated her help and restaurant recommendations. Do note that the Hakka Club is closed, but the Kitchen and Bar are nice and cozy spots to grab a meal and beer.

I stayed in this apartment for a month. This is not a small place. A studio, yes, but soooo roomy and comfortable, with a huge bed and beautiful big window looking out over the city. The neighborhood is lively and has everything a traveler needs, from restaurants in the building itself, to an even bigger variety within 5 minutes walking. Great shower, decent kitchen, and a washing machine on the little balcony. AC works great! The hosts and managers are friendly, helpful, and always available. I really felt at home here and wish I could stay even longer.

The location was great. There're restaurants and bars nearby. And it's about just 10mins of walk from the subway station. The entire place is exactly the same it shows in the photos. My stay here was very comfortable. The assistant was quite helpful with your requests or questions. If you like to party, and it happens to be weekend, TAG on 21F of POLY which is close to the studio is highly recommended. Good music, cheap drinks, why not?;)

I enjoyed my stay at this conveniently located apartment. a 15-minute walk to almost everything I needed (supermarket 2-minute, open market 10 minute, restaurants 2-minute, Sichuan University 15-minute, American Consulate 15-minute, subway 15-minute, airport bus 15-minute). The neighborhood was safe and very 'authentic' (not a tourist feel, a real neighborhood feel). The apartment was not unusual for Chinese standards, but would be unacceptable by U.S. standards, which I think comes with the territory. Be ready to live in an apartment that feels like college student housing. Bathroom: Shower, Western toilet, and sink work great. Minimal lighting, corner grout blackened and needs repair, general moldy smell. Kitchen: Postage-stamp size 1-person kitchen. Single-burner wok stove with super exhaust hood was FANTASTIC. Tiny refrigerator worked wonderfully. Adequate plates, glasses, serving dishes, soup bowls, tea mugs, a couple sharp knives, electric water boiling pot, microwave, almost everything I needed to cook, lacking only rice-cooker, potato peeler, dish towels, and additional chopsticks. Washer: Worked great (cold water only). No dryer or iron, just hang-drying on the balcony. Living Space/Bedroom: Large, multi-purpose room was great. The bed was hard, and should not be inspected too closely because it is an old mattress covered with layers of old linens and blankets. The sheets were good, and the comforter came in two versions: light for hot nights and thick and heavy (very comfy) for colder nights. Air Conditioning/Heating: Heat pump worked great. The space is small, so quickly heats or cools. I tried to use it as little as possible, in keeping with the local traditions, but still ran the air a few times and the heat twice during my two-month stay. No dining table, unless you can sit cross-legged at the tiny table set in the window seat (I tried it once, but could not make it comfortable enough for me). So I ate at the student's desk. There is only one chair, so having guests over means sitting them on the couch (good couch), on the bed, or on the window seat. The lighting is typical for Asia. Let's just say it is "romantic" lighting. I had to move a lamp very close to be able to read my keyboard to type at night. In general, I think the apartment is not unexpected for rental property in Chengdu. I know my wife would not be able to stay here (the mold smell and tile in the bathroom), but it was good for me. I loved the location, and the ability to rent the apartment for two months. Plus, the security of booking an apartment from the USA and knowing AirBnB was holding the funds until I saw the apartment was great. Ellen was a good host. Her English is amazing. I was not happy with her apartment manager because she never fixed the TV or the light in the bathroom, even after three complaints during my first three weeks. I will definitely stay here again.

Hi! I’m Ellen, or Zhang Xuan (张绚) in Chinese, welcome to Chengdu! I am born and bred in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan and home to China’s tastiest and of course spiciest cuisine! I’m also a member of the Hakka people, who, strangely are not recognized by the Chinese government …
