The 'A1' motorway is about 2,0 kilometres away, giving easy access to Tuscany (Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca and numerous smaller towns and places of interest, such as San Gimignano).
Westwards lies the river Arno and the Chianti hills, producing the splendid wines of the same name. Often considered one of the most beautiful regions in Europe, Chianti is a mixture of breathtaking views and charming, intimate villages.
Slightly further afield, the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo offer a great variety of things to do and see. Florence, in the heart of Tuscany, is the cradle of the Renaissance and the classical Italian of Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio. While other European cities still lived in the middle Ages, modern art and culture developed here under the reign of the Medici. Today in Florence one can visit and admire the masterpieces of artists like Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci in world-famous museums (the Uffizi, the Accademia, Palazzo Pitti), in beautiful churches, or even on a casual walk through the city. The Ponte Vecchio connects the lively and historic city center around the Cathedral with the quieter neighborhood on the other side of the Arno river. Florence’s urban landscape is distinguished by beautiful squares like Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza della Signoria, by small streets and winding medieval alleys, by various markets, and above all by the marvelous cupola of the Cathedral, visible from almost everywhere in the city. Today Florence attracts tourists from all over the world who find here, besides history, everything to feel at home: Tuscan food and the best Italian wines, numerous bars and discos, a traffic-free center and many inviting shops.

Manuela is a wonderful host, very nice and extremely helpful. The apartment is nice. It is in a good location, a short walk from the train station, supermarkets, laundromat and restaurants. The area is good, feels very safe and is relatively quiet (except for trains). Not much of a kitchen but it has everything you need to get by. The bedrooms are nice and the beds are very comfortable! The apartment is beautiful in the summer. It stays nice and cool and the garden is a great place to hang out!

Manuela was very warm and welcoming and helpful. The flat was dark, as it is below pavement level and receives very little light, but the garden is sunny and a pleasant place to be. The flat is right next to the main railway line so the sound of passing trains is loud as they pass every few minutes. There is a small market a few minutes walk away selling mainly second hand clothes and fresh fruit and veg. 20 minutes walk into Florence old town.

The apartment has a nice size for two people. It is maybe a 5 minute walk from the bus stop, but the bus takes about 25 minutes or so to get to the main station. Usually we opted to walk down to the river and walk along the river instead. There is also a train station conveniently nearby and we were able to easily take long distance trains. The apartment is on the ground floor, but is lower than the street. This made is nice and feel very safe, because we were the only people with access to the patio and had a gate at the top. There are 2 grocery stores within walking distance. The only cons were that it was close to the train (across the street) and the trains could easily be heard, but we also come from cities and so for us this wasn't such a problem. The street is otherwise quiet. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in the apartment and found many ways to walk home from the center of the city. Nearby (maybe 5-10 minutes walk) there is a nice street full of cafes, bars and shops that is quite pleasant to enjoy in the evening and get a bit away from the touristic center. The apartment is in a residential area, so we were able to experience life outside the tourism.

Manuela is great and very helpfull : she provided us with plans and usefull information about the city. The house is well located perfect, the garden beautiful. I will stay again here for a next visit in Florence.
