About the house and the Neighborhood
Welcome to your Athens home away from home! We are delighted to be hosting you here. Here are a few things to consider for your stay. It is important that you read them carefully to make your experience as enjoyable and comfortable as possible!
1. Always lock the door of the main entrance to the building at night.
2. Never throw toilet paper into the toilet! This is the waste system in Greece, kindly dispose of it in the waste basket or the toilet could clog!
3. The hot water switch is located in the bottom right corner of the electric panel at the entrance. Turn it on approximately 15 minutes before you use the shower and always switch it off after you have finished!
4. The Internet connection of the house is
and the code is:
(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).Open the front door only to people that you know!
6. Please respect the quiet hours, from 2p.m to 5p.m and after 11p.m in the evening.
Plataion street (parallel to Mykalis):
For reasonable prices and good food visit
2."Kerameio" is a nice place with good coffee (opens around noon), good drinks and a good night scene. Often there are good bands playing live at night. Just next to Kerameio, in the corner there is
3. “Elvis", a small place with nice souvlaki to eat quicly or take away.
4.A supermarket for your grocery shopping needs is located at the end of Plataion just a two-minute walk from the house- it's called Beropoulos. The closest way to reach the supermarket is by taking a right when exiting the building; you will reach "Megalou Alexandrou" Street and take a right on it until Plataion. The supermarket is on the left hand side. On your way there you will see a bakery on the left hand side of Megalou Alexandrou Street if you need one. There is also a small pharmacy.
5.If you prefer to shop Bio, walk left on Mykalis when exiting the building until you reach Keramikou street. Take a left on Keramikou and the Bio store will be on your right hand side next to a new sandwich shop (take away sandwichs that are really good!)
6.There is also the art center “Bios", just few steps from home, on the road Pireos number 84, on your left hand just turning left from Plataion str. There you can see new forms of theatre, dance, screenings and very often concerts (electronica, hip-hop etc), check it out! And they have a great open bar on the roof with nice Acropolis view, cocktails etc… for the summertime.
7. There is a nice bakery at Megalou Alexandrou street, just right the corner. Also, you may prefer to order coffee and/or breakfast at home by calling Gazi College at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Just in the corner (we can see it from the windows) there is LOUIS, a Jazz café for tsipouro, and meze really cheap and nice.
9. A few blocks away, on Kerameikos strt. Search for restraurant Seyhelles, for nice meet or fish in a cozy environment. For a more greek taste- cuisine you may visit Kanela restaurant, few mins away from home, at Evmolpidon 70 street.
10.Finally, you can visit GAZARTE just on Gazi square, street Voutadon 34, an all day café, bar with a roof with great view, a very nice cinema, a nice restaurant and very interesting concerts from time to time, mostly jazz. Check there website for more information.
11.The Metro station (Kerameikos) is situated in the middle of Kerameikos square, where you will also find an abundance of different types of cafes and bars in one of the most happening nightlife spots in the city. To reach the main square take a right on to Leonidou street which is located on your left upon exiting the building. Keep walking until you reach the big street (Iera Odos). Cross it and keep walking into the side street across. At the end of the street you will see the main square of Kerameikos, also known as Gazi. Check also if there are things happening in Gazi (the old factory at the bottom of the square), there are often concerts or other kind of festival going on inside there.
If you like museums and galleries, there are some around the neighborhood, check E.D.W art space, or Rebecca Camhi gallery on Leonidou str. for examble, and off course don't miss to visite the “Benaki museum" that is not far by feet from home (on Pireos street).
Don't hesitate to contact me about more tips or any further information you might need.
