House Rules

The building is beautiful but old, and wood floors can be somewhat loud. As a courtesy to the downstairs guests we ask that hard-soled shoes are removed for walking around the apartment. Basic rules of decorum should be observed as far as guests and noise. Please observe generally quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM. The plumbing is very functional but it is also old, so be courteous with what goes down the drain.

The keys you will receive upon arrival have a fob that opens the gate. Without the fob you will not be able to access the entry to the apartment, so please keep track of the keys at all times. There will be a replacement fee if the fob is lost.

We try to keep the apartment free of any toxic cleansers, anything that burns and leaves a smell (incense, candles), or just anything that might harm the surfaces of anything or the insides of the plumbing.

We request that you contact us immediately with any maintenance issues before a small problem grows into a big one.

We stayed for over 6 weeks and loved this place! Tons of light through all the windows, but shaded enough that it never got too hot even when Portland went through a heat wave. We could walk to so much that the east side has to offer, and the bus stop is just one block away if you want to be in downtown in 15 -20 minutes. Bjarndyr was the nicest host ever! He took great care of us and tried really hard to make sure we were happy.

We loved the apartment we stayed in for two weeks. We initially had a wifi that was so slow that we couldn't use it. Christy did have ATT fix the problem, but it did take six days after our request. This, for us, was a critical problem, and getting it fixed saved an easy five star rating. One issue we had, which Christy does caution about, is the creaking of floorboards, both ours, making us feel bad for the first floor neighbors, as well as the ones above us, causing us some inconvenience. Overall, the amenities, location, cleanliness, and brightness exceeded our expectations, and we will recommend it to friends.

Spacious and light filled with minimal furnishings. Lots of architectural charm. Christy was great in meeting me late at night upon my arrival

Great location right on Belmont St. and less than a block to the 15 bus stop, which easily takes you downtown! Felt very safe with the gated entrances. Quiet building. Great natural light! Easy access to the recycling and compost for the building as well. Would definitely stay here again!

First the good. The location is great. There is a great restaurant across the street and others nearby. There is a bus stop close by that will get you downtown in a few minutes. During our 18 night stay the neighbors were quiet but there was some street noise. Now the not so good. There is no parking even though the parking is listed on Airbnb and street parking can be difficult at times regardless of what the owner tells you. The apartment is in an old building with inadequate heating. Portable space heaters are provided but too much use and you blow the fuses (not circuit breakers, old fashioned screw in fuses) and they are hidden behind the stove in the kitchen. We often keep our coats on to stay warm. The kitchen is basic, no microwave or coffee maker. There is a coffee press but no tea kettle. The curtains are lace and provide little privacy and no light blocking. The bathroom curtain is tiny and only covers about 1/3 of the window. You can see into the neighbors apartments and they can see you in the bathroom. Getting in and out of the shower or going to the bathroom you are in a fishbowl. There are no curtains on the glass doors separating the bedroom and with all of the street lights the room is never dark. Overall I would not recommend staying here, especially in the winter.

Response from Christy:
Hi John. We're sorry to hear that you were uncomfortable during your stay. We have been having a pretty unseasonably bad winter so it was colder than expected and it clearly overloaded our current heating solutions. We would have been happy to try to further address the situation with the heat, or try to remedy your concerns about privacy issues if we had known you were dissatisfied during your stay. Again, we are sorry that the apartment didn't meet your expectations.
