Lorene's place is a lovely large apartment that looks exactly like the photos. I'm sure I would've had a nice stay there had it not been for the communication issues and the lack of running water which the host said nothing about and ignored my emails regarding the problem once I had checked in. After cancelling the apartment (I was in Berlin for work and think that running water in an apartment particularly for the shower and toilet is a pretty important utility...) I still didn't hear from the host until I requested a refund for the two nights I didn't stay in the apartment.
Kristin's apartment in the heart of Friedrichshain is an incredible place to call home. With her eclectic art and wonderful speakers, this high-ceiling flat is a true representation of berlin style. I highly recommend for anyone visiting for the area and for the city. Transit stops are just metres away (bus and tram) with metro only 10 - 15 minutes walking. Quiet area, lots of youth, lots of natural light.
I had a splendid stay in Berlin! The appartment is quiet, spacious and very comfortable. And what about the bed! The mattress is soo comfortable I slept like a baby and woke feeling super rested every day! The neighborhood is super nice, plenty of designer shops, old bookstores and coffee places, it's perfect with Urban Spree just 10 min away. Easy and flexible check-in/check-out to top it all off, a great experience overall!
I have mixed feelings about my stay here, read on for details, this place might not be right for some. It seems she is relatively new to hosting, and with some improvement this could be a great place. Highlights: - Cute apartment, the decor was unique with brightly patterned rugs and carved masks on the walls. - The neighborhood had lots of young families, baby strollers were abundant on the streets there, so families would feel right at home. The neighborhood felt safe. - Very close to public transport. The flat was a 10-15 min walk from Ostkreuz station, a major transportation hub with 8 of the 11 train lines in Berlin running thru this station it was easy to grab a train. It was less than 5 minutes walk to the closest tram stop. - Very spacious flat, more than enough room for two people. - Quiet and peaceful, very little noise from he street, neighbors, etc. - The mattress was comfortable but the bedding left something to be desired (see below) Could be improved: - Our host was not very communicative. I tried messaging her a few days before our check in to learn the details of the flat (would someone be meeting us there to give us the keys? Should we pick the keys up from somewhere? What was the wifi password, etc) After a few days wait for her reply, our host suggested she call us to give instruction. Given that I was traveling internationally (as many do on Airbnb) I didn't have cell service, and was only able to receive information via email or Airbnb messenger. When I informed our host of this and asked that further instruction be sent via email she was unresponsive. When I got no response and it was the night prior to our arrival I became concerned that I did not have instruction on how to check in from our host and had to contact Airbnb customer service to try to resolve the issue. I finally got instruction from our host at nearly midnight the night before our check-in! - The apartment did not seem well appointed to be receiving guests. The bed didn't have standard pillows but instead had throw pillows (like those you would normally see on a couch in a living room) They did not appear to have removable pillowcases so I'm not sure how or if the pillows are washed between stays. Not very hygienic. - The towels in the bathroom did not appear as though they had been laundered, there were fresh towels in the cupboard but the ones on the rack in the bathroom were dingy - There was no hand soap in the bathroom - There was no liner in the trash bin in the kitchen - There was no toilet paper in the bathroom upon check-in, when I messaged our host about where I might find extra in the flat she instructed me to buy some from the store across the street....
