Sadly there were more negatives than positives with this apartment.
The problems started with check in. When you click on the directions on the Airbnb app for the property it takes you to the wrong address on Sofiivs'ka Street. The host speaks no English, but I had informed them a few days beforehand in Russian (with the help of a friend) that my arrival time at the apartment would be between 18:00 - 18:30. I arrived at 18:00 and waited outside what was the wrong property for 45 minutes. I messaged the host in Russian to inform them I was outside but received no reply. Eventually I found their phone number and managed to just about communicate with them.
The apartment was clean but dated. It looks better in the photos than it does in person. The communal parts of the building are horrible, very run down and dirty. On one of be evenings I returned to the apartment, there was no power in the building, so the lift was not working and the staircase was in total darkness. My phone had just 1% battery left so it wouldn't even let me use my phone torch, I just about found my way up to the 5th floor, almost falling over a number of times.
Inside the apartment the bed is reasonably comfortable, the kitchen is ok and the air conditioner worked fine in the bedroom. The shower however is broken in the bathroom, the showerhead kept falling off.
Another problem in the communal area of the building was that a number of panes of glass on the landing area outside the apartment fell from the ceiling, smashing all over the floor. Thankfully no one was stood underneath when they fell. But there reminded broken glass all over the floor for a number of days.
On a more positive note, the location of the apartment is very good, and I know it's harsh to blame problems with the building on the apartment itself but I feel they need to be mentioned.
