About this listing

This stately old house was built to last, by shipbuilders in this once thriving community on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. Now it's our quiet seaside getaway. Not far from Antigonish and historic Sherbrooke. About 1-1/2 hours from the Canso Causeway.

The space

This house is solid and comfortable. Built by shipbuilders from the kind of rough lumber that you can still buy at local sawmills. There are enough beds for seven, in the four bedrooms. The kitchen seats four comfortably and the dining room can hold eight. There is one bathroom, on the main floor, with no shower but a cast iron tub (with a pretty good view of the harbour).

Guest access

The whole house is available.

Interaction with guests

We will always be available by phone or email, and our year-round neighbours will be available for any emergencies.

Other things to note

The nearest big grocery store is in Antigonish - about 50 minutes drive - although there is gasoline and a few convenience stores along the way.
The daily average temperature in the summer is about 18 C (65 F). Depending on the year, it can be cool some nights. The central heating is not currently in use, but the house is well insulated and the wood stove is great for taking the chill off and makes for a cozy atmosphere.

I was on a family vacation in Nova Scotia with my mother for three weeks and it was our first time experiencing the Eastern Shore. Isaac's harbour is a magical experience from breathtaking beaches, incredible sea air, and a beautiful view of the stars at nighttime. Karen's authentic shipbuilders cottage was expertly equipped and we enjoyed the view of the harbour from the deck, the cozy wood stove and the spacious bedrooms. Throughout our stay we were welcomed by our neighbors and our hosts, and communication with Mike and Karen was effortless. Isaac's Harbour is the perfect location for exploring nearby Port Bickerton, town of Guysborough, and even beautiful Cape Breton. Overall a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to return!

We are a family of 4. I teach at the University of Toronto, my husband is an engineer, our children are 19 and 16. We enjoy every aspect of living in our Beach community. It very much feels like a village to us. We bike it, walk it every chance we get.
