The space
Firehouse Studio is a renovated firehouse featured on HGTV Program: Rezoned. The 1884 building is located in a small, rural town about 30 minutes from Gettysburg, PA and trendy Frederick, MD. It is 1 hour west Baltimore and 1.5 hours north of Washington D.C. There are 2 spaces available in this light filled artist studio and living space:

1.An open loft with a double bed.
2.A private room with a double bed.

Living space is 1500 sq ft of space with 16-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and lots of artwork. The kitchen is eat in. The dining room seats 6.

There are 2 bathrooms: the one with a tub is in the 2nd floor living space and the shower is located in the first floor studio.

Fresh linens, towels, and standard toiletries are included.

The town population is only 900+ but we feature a train museum, two restaurants, a pharmacy, bank, hair dresser, historic Quaker Meeting House and other houses of workship and of course, a volunteer fire department. A wetlands park is walking distance from the firehouse. We are always looking for visitors who might want to make this town home.

The area now boasts more than 12 wineries. Award winning Elk Run Vineyard http://www.elkrun.com/ and organic Black Ankle Winery http://www.blackankle.com/ are nearby. The Maryland Wine Festival takes place every September. http://www.marylandwinefestival.org/.Hops are being grown at many local farms creating at least 10 new micro breweries. Milkhouse Brewery is close to the firehouse. All venues have music and other events throughout the year. http://stillpointfarming.com/milkhouse_brewery_at_stillpoint_farm

“Foodies” can eat at Volt (Top Chef competitor Brian Voltaggio) in Frederick http://www.voltrestaurant.com/ while exploring the many shops and galleries that occupy the historic buildings along Carroll Creek.

For outdoor experiences, you can hike in the Catoctin Mountains, go tubing in Harpers Ferry and bike the hills of Carroll or Frederick County. Civil War battlefields and museums are within 30 miles of the firehouse.

There are also 2 studio spaces in the lower half of the firehouse. You are welcome to try your hand at clay, stone carving or painting. A photographer works in the studio some weekends. Depending on my travel schedule, I may also be there.

I am dog friendly (crate during day if left alone; no yard so need to walk/poop pick up; no sleeping on furniture ) .

ABSOLUTELY No smoking.

This is a VERY small town so folks will be curious about you but will keep their distance--they may, however, check to see if you belong at my place by asking what brings you to town.

30 years ago I left a full time job to become a sculptor and filmmaker. I bought an abandoned firehouse and spent the next 15 years renovating it. In the past few years, I have been spending part of the summer living on an island near Portland Maine. Sharing my firehouse Studio with others will enable me to spend more time on my artwork as well as share all the interesting opportunities in the Frederick area of Maryland. I recently completed a (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) lb limestone sculpture for the Carroll County Public Library in Westminster MD and completed a 3 year community based art project called Welcoming the Stranger--view it on (Hidden by Airbnb) and #weavethetent.
