Great house, great spot. This is home base for exploring historic Portland (called America's foodiest small city) and its surrounding areas.
The house: 1930's style Bungalow that's comfortable and cozy, but roomy enough to not feel small, with a big deck and bigger back yard. The yard is fenced in, which is great for kids. Parking, grill, cable, WiFi, ipod/computer hook-up for the stereo, and lawn games (weather provided) are all available. Washer & dryer available upon advance request. Three bedrooms:
Room 1 - Queen bed
Room 2 - Pull-out couch (incl. feather bed to make it more comfortable).
Room 3 - Queen bed and queen futon
1.5 baths (.5 is in the upstairs bedroom/Room 3).
The spot: At the bottom of Meeting House Hill, this part of town is in the middle of all good Portland/South Portland things. It's just over the bridge from downtown's waterfront, shops, parks, music venues, amazing farmer's markets, islands (via ferry), and renowned restaurants and bars. On this side of the bay, it's about a mile from popular Willard beach (walking distance) and a handful of cool lighthouses. Just up the hill are David's 388 restaurant, Beal's Ice Cream (best lobster roll for the price), and Scratch Bakery (get the salt bagels). And dessert at Red's Dairy Freeze is steps from the house. Coming soon are legendary Otto's Pizza and a down-home BBQ joint. South Portland has its own farmer's market just down the street, every Wednesday.
The bungalow is just off RT77, which leads to Cape Elizabeth, more lobster shacks, a mess of great beaches, and historic Fort Williams park. Nearby beaches: Higgins, Ferry, Kettle Cove, Crescent, Scarborough, East End (Portland).
Walking and biking trails trails run through Portland and this part of South Portland, as do kayak launches. Red Sox games are only 1.5 hrs away in Boston and their AAA team, the Sea Dogs, has its home right here in Portland.
All prices include Maine Sales Tax.
Please note that this is my home when I'm not on the road. Thanks for considering that in how you take care of the place!
